A wee Highland gem! 5 out of 5 stars.

My wife and I were introduced to this series by a friend who also has a Westie in her family, and we quickly became addicted. While the dog Jock actually plays a relatively minor part in the series, we became entranced by the characters, the scenery, the humor, and, not least, the love story that gives this series a really special quality. In addition to a great series of performances by Robert Carlyle, Shirley Henderson turns in an outstanding performance as Isobel. The rest of the cast is also excellent. After watching the series, the one M.C. Beaton book I read was quite a disappointment.

Wish there were more 5 out of 5 stars.

I have read several of the Hamish Macbeth books, but I had never heard of
the television series until I found it on Netflix. I liked the book series
so I thought I would give it a try and I have to say that I LOVE it. I am
going slowly because there are only three seasons and I just can't bear to
have it end! In fact, I read one of the books recently, and I found it
irritating because I like the dvd's so much better. Did Ms. Beaton have
anything to do with the script of this production? I would love to know.

Even better than the others 5 out of 5 stars.

I'm a huge Hamish MacBeth fan, and when I found the third series to the set I couldn't wait to see the episodes. I wasn't disappointed. The series does take a jog from the familiar fun first two series and becomes a bit darker. But I found the story lines very well written and captivating. The characters were still fun but perhaps a bit more mature as if settling into their respective parts like a well worn pair of jeans. Like I said the third series was darker, yet even funnier than the first two. Overall, I loved all three series, but the third season was my favorite.

My wife and I rate the Hamish MacBeth 10 Star 5 out of 5 stars.

We like these programs very, very much. They incite all our emotions; from humor to tears and the story line is cohesive but varies from show to show and is never tiresome, old or predictable. Sometimes the heavy Scottish brogue is hard to catch but mostly what little of the chat that I don't understand is not vital to following the story. The Scottish scenery and towns are beautiful, the variety of personalities are charming and, except for a villain, lovable, entertaining, and unforgettable.

and i do like monarch of the glen 4 out of 5 stars.

I like Robert Carlyle since seeing him in Full Monty. I like the way he plays Hamish, and i really like Hamish's deputy, He really makes this show fun. the girl could be anyone, but the local oddballs make this show fun. I have read 3 or 4 of the books, but if you just watch the show without a preconcieved idea of how Hamish should look and act, you will enjoy the show for the fun of it. Just like alot of the british comedy. Sit back and get absorbed.

Hamish is a hero 5 out of 5 stars.

I thoroughly enjoyed this series when it was first aired. I even visited the village of Plockton where it was filmed during a visit to bonny Scotland. Watching it again many years later proves the plot and storyline are enduring and well written. Each episode is a self contained event with larger drama running across the series. The scenery is stark and beautiful and the characters highly individual and entertaining. Finally Hamish himself who is happy to live in a small regional centre and be left alone to act out his extended boyhood has some lessons for us all.

Television just doesn't get any better! 5 out of 5 stars.

Hamish Macbeth has everything that's lacking in American television, it's brilliant entertainment. The writing, the music, the character development are all outstanding. It's filmed in Plockton, within sight of Duncraig Castle...right in the heart of Clan Matheson territory. If you missed its airing on BBC America then be sure to get the DVD, you won't be disappointed.

Fun, quirky, 5 out of 5 stars.

I enjoyed this wonderful, funny, and quirky characterization of the residents of this northern seaside Scottish village. I really look forward to seeing the rest of the series.

Disappointing for MC Beaton fans 1 out of 5 stars.

If you are an MC Beaton fan, don't bother with this DVD. Only (some of) the names, and really none of the characters, are the same as the books. Why the BBC chose to change everything is beyond me. Stick with the books. They continue to be a delight to read.

First series 4 out of 5 stars.

We liked Robert Carylyle in the Full Monty and enjoy British/Scottish "country life" shows so we had high expectations. We watched the first episode and liked it but wasn't sure it was great. However as you watch more episodes you come to know and like the characters. And the plot lines were quirky enough to keep you guessing.

Scotland as it never is but should be. 5 out of 5 stars.

Both these series are superb. Hamish MacBeth is Brigadoon on dope, everything is almost real but just a bit off kilter. Robert Carlyle is excellent as the non achiever constable, content to loll about in a backwoods village with Heiland coos wandering doon the street, smoking questionable tobacco and dealing with a realistic if skewed bunch of villagers, from the randy grocer to the inept lobster entrepreneurs to the police house custodian who sees visions - they are all terrific. Monarch is a little more reality based but only a little, Richard Briers as Hector the retiring laird is superb and the rest of the cast create an ensemble that is just delightful. The scenery, the kilts, the stories all just nostalgic magic. Pour yersel a wee dram, sit doon and just enjoy.
