Who didn't want to live on a boat, drive a '50's vette & fly a helicopter in the '80's??? 5 out of 5 stars.

I watched this show loyally when I was a toddler. Ok, I was roughly 13 years old. But given the fact that the radio was playing Flock Of Seagulls, Culture Club & The Human League non-stop...this show gave me hope that I could seclude myself on a boat someday with no radio. Of course, the yacht filled with a dozen lovely ladies next door certainly didn't hurt my adolescent dream.
Anyway, this show & this season 2 collection is still just simple, enjoyable fun. It's great. The basis of the show is 3 guys who can't afford groceries but somehow manage to maintain a HELICOPTER, A Classic 1958[?] Corvette, a top-notch Speedboat (ooo-The Ebbtide!) & an actual YACHT that they live on! And each case only generates a couple hundred bucks if they don't decide to do it pro-bono as a favor to a friend. That's the 80's and that explains a lot about all of us from the 80's. Not to mention the fact that 3 guys living on a yacht could explain years of damage to my Psyche.
In Season 2 though especially were some EXCELLENT episodes that you can watch over n over! "Beat The Box" is great...Murray the computer NERD invents a box that tells on you when you lie. What better basis for a show of three guy detectives. After all, guys never lie. I've seen some reviews here mention the change and/or loss of music in the episode "Be true to your school" but that's because these are CANADIAN released DVD sets. Canada has never heard the Beach Boys or the Beatles so that's why the music is different! Just kidding Canada, I really like you guys. Canada more than likely had a different audience than the U.S. for this show in the 80's.
All in all & kidding aside, every episode from this season is actually fantastic but several stand out above the rest by far such as: "Arrivederci, Baby" featuring Cesar Romero. AWESOME! "Prisoner Of War" shows that Nick actually does date and it's a woman and she goes mental & turns to prostitution but Nick is still nice enough to go find her & save her...and then stick her in a mental hospital. Nice guy. I knew I wanted to be just like him. Then there's "Baxter And Boz" which features the guy who used to play The dad on the ADDAMS FAMILY!!! Can it get any better than this?? And in this episode Mr. Addams (Bax) is this ginormous quazillionnaire who gives away state-of-the-art helicopters and who gets one? You guessed it---our boys. I won't mention that they crash it in 18 seconds. It's OK though...they get another one. It's a cool episode with cheesy cars from the 80's. Finally, there is quite possibly the BEST EPISODE EVER...[drum roll]......"CURSE OF THE MARY ABERDEEN"!!!!!!! Totally awesome, Rad, [insert other 80's catch phrase here] episode! This episode kicks! Scary...eerily strange episode that leads to the guys finding out their yacht is a haunted boat...that holds the secret to a hidden treasure! Of course they are assisted by their client...the mysterious magician &...DOOLY!!! Yup, Season 2 shows the appearance of the local hip-kid named "Ken Dooly" played by Ken Olandt. Don't ask me why I remember his name. It's just strange. And a bit frightening. In the end the treasure is Harry Houdini's secret diaries (also pretty cool). This set is worth it for this episode alone.
Definately one of the better 80's TV shows. Al 3 seasons are excellent & the quality of the DVD's are very good. Enjoy Riptide Season 2!
