Do NOT buy this version. Buy the VEI release instead! 1 out of 5 stars.

There are TWO releases of Riptide "Season one" on DVD. This release by Sony, and another by a company named VEI. Here is why I'm urging you NOT to buy this version, and instead support VEI;

Sony has a long history of neglecting fans and waiting for several YEARS to release further seasons. They also tend to discontinue many DVD TV releases, citing poor sales (no further seasons). For instance, TJ Hooker may never see another season released.

VEI on the other hand, seems to care about the fans of each series they release. Everyone thought that Hardcastle and McCormick would never make it to DVD, yet VEI released ALL THREE seasons, QUICKLY, and apparently unedited (no music changes)!

Sony has not released season TWO of Riptide, while VEI has already released BOTH Season One AND Season Two, with Season Three just around the corner (February 27, 2008)! I doubt you will even see a Season Two release of Riptide by Sony!

So, why would you want to buy this release and support Sony, when they will probably NEVER even release season two? Before clicking on the "BUY" button, I urge you to Search Amazon for the VEI release. As consumers we need to support the DVD releasing companies that SUPPORT ALL OF US!

Here's the info on the DVD release that you should buy:

Studio: Unidisc.Inc (This is VEI)
DVD Release Date: November 7, 2006
ASIN: B000HD0YGA

You'll find it here on Amazon.

Also, the VEI release is indeed an "Official Release" (Fully Licensed) and you will not be sacrificing quality!

VEI will soon be releasing Stingray, another great Stephen J. Cannell series!!!

I have NO AFFILIATION with VEI. I'm just a fan who appreciates it when a studio actually releases an entire TV series, quickly!

This series deserves FIVE STARS. The ONE STAR rating is for this SONY release.

Thank you to "VEI" for releasing all three seasons QUICKLY! 5 out of 5 stars.

VEI proves once again that they care about the fans! All three seasons of Riptide, released QUICKLY! For comparison, Sony released only the first season of Riptide, and I'd be willing to bet that's the only release you'll see from them! Anyone purchasing Riptide on DVD should NOT PURCHASE the Sony release of season one. If a DVD releasing company does not support the fans, we should not support THEM!

Riptide season three;

The final season, featuring 22 episodes and such notable guest stars as; Richard Hatch (Battlestar Galactica), Jane Badler (V), Cesar Romero (Batman), Barbi Benton (Playboy), Steve Allen (The Steve Allen Show), and many more!

Now, I can't wait for "Stingray" to be released! Another great Stephen J, Cannell creation!

I would love to see VEI re-release all of the Stephen J. Cannell TV series that Anchor Bay ruined. Even if they could not restore all of the original music, I'm sure almost ANYONE could do a better job releasing "Hunter", "21 Jump Street", and "the Greatest American Hero". Anchor Bay basically RUINED each one of those series with HORRIBLE edits and pathetic music replacements! I realize that VEI has also changed SOME music on Riptide, but they have done a far better job than Anchor Bay ever did! VEI also QUICKLY released all three seasons of Hardcastle and McCormick, unedited!

Three cheers for VEI, I hope they're listening!

Who didn't want to live on a boat, drive a '50's vette & fly a helicopter in the '80's??? 5 out of 5 stars.

I watched this show loyally when I was a toddler. Ok, I was roughly 13 years old. But given the fact that the radio was playing Flock Of Seagulls, Culture Club & The Human League non-stop...this show gave me hope that I could seclude myself on a boat someday with no radio. Of course, the yacht filled with a dozen lovely ladies next door certainly didn't hurt my adolescent dream.

Anyway, this show & this season 2 collection is still just simple, enjoyable fun. It's great. The basis of the show is 3 guys who can't afford groceries but somehow manage to maintain a HELICOPTER, A Classic 1958[?] Corvette, a top-notch Speedboat (ooo-The Ebbtide!) & an actual YACHT that they live on! And each case only generates a couple hundred bucks if they don't decide to do it pro-bono as a favor to a friend. That's the 80's and that explains a lot about all of us from the 80's. Not to mention the fact that 3 guys living on a yacht could explain years of damage to my Psyche.

In Season 2 though especially were some EXCELLENT episodes that you can watch over n over! "Beat The Box" is great...Murray the computer NERD invents a box that tells on you when you lie. What better basis for a show of three guy detectives. After all, guys never lie. I've seen some reviews here mention the change and/or loss of music in the episode "Be true to your school" but that's because these are CANADIAN released DVD sets. Canada has never heard the Beach Boys or the Beatles so that's why the music is different! Just kidding Canada, I really like you guys. Canada more than likely had a different audience than the U.S. for this show in the 80's.

All in all & kidding aside, every episode from this season is actually fantastic but several stand out above the rest by far such as: "Arrivederci, Baby" featuring Cesar Romero. AWESOME! "Prisoner Of War" shows that Nick actually does date and it's a woman and she goes mental & turns to prostitution but Nick is still nice enough to go find her & save her...and then stick her in a mental hospital. Nice guy. I knew I wanted to be just like him. Then there's "Baxter And Boz" which features the guy who used to play The dad on the ADDAMS FAMILY!!! Can it get any better than this?? And in this episode Mr. Addams (Bax) is this ginormous quazillionnaire who gives away state-of-the-art helicopters and who gets one? You guessed it---our boys. I won't mention that they crash it in 18 seconds. It's OK though...they get another one. It's a cool episode with cheesy cars from the 80's. Finally, there is quite possibly the BEST EPISODE EVER...[drum roll]......"CURSE OF THE MARY ABERDEEN"!!!!!!! Totally awesome, Rad, [insert other 80's catch phrase here] episode! This episode kicks! Scary...eerily strange episode that leads to the guys finding out their yacht is a haunted boat...that holds the secret to a hidden treasure! Of course they are assisted by their client...the mysterious magician &...DOOLY!!! Yup, Season 2 shows the appearance of the local hip-kid named "Ken Dooly" played by Ken Olandt. Don't ask me why I remember his name. It's just strange. And a bit frightening. In the end the treasure is Harry Houdini's secret diaries (also pretty cool). This set is worth it for this episode alone.

Definately one of the better 80's TV shows. Al 3 seasons are excellent & the quality of the DVD's are very good. Enjoy Riptide Season 2!
