This set was available about a year ago, but it was pulled from the schedule. Now it is available again. I hope this time it actually gets released and we can then own the complete run of this great family series.

well i fianlly got season 6 but there seems to part of a scene missing. In the first episode with Floyd Patterson, hin and his son are about to go over the waterfalls. the scene stops as they begin the openiing of the show and then the next scene has Israel and Floyd Paterson's sitting at a fire. What happened ? Where did the dad go ? They were going over a waterfall. I had Amazon ship me another one but it is the same issue. If Any Daniel Boone fans could help me . i would appreciate it

Great adventure and excitement on the frontier! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Daniel Boone was, and still is, a wonderful show. It ran from September 24, 1964 until it was cancelled on September 10, 1970 for a total of six seasons and 165 episodes. Fess Parker starred as Daniel Boone, (which could be considered a recreation of his role as Davy Crockett) explorer, adventurer, and all-around family man. The beautiful Patricia Blair was Daniel's wife Rebecca, Ed Ames was the civilized, Oxford educated Cherokee named Mingo, Albert Salmi was Yadkin, Daniel's loyal sidekick, Veronica Cartwright was Daniel's young daughter Jemima, Darby Hinton was Israel Boone, and Dal McKennon was the hilarious Cincinnatus. The show was set in and around the small settlement of Boonesborough, Kentucky, and was basically about Daniel Boone's always exciting adventures. The very few episodes that have barely (if any) action in them are sometimes considered not as good as the others. But the moral to those particular episodes is that sometimes action is not required to solve a situation, just faith, hope, truth, and above all, love. The show featured many guest stars in its first season alone, such as Brock Peters, Pat Hingle, Michael Rennie, Leslie Nielsen, Kelly Thordsen, Peter Whitney, and Walter Pidgeon. So join Daniel Boone as he battles hostile Indians, evil British with plans to have the land all to themselves, dishonest settlers and many other disreputable inhabitants of the land in and around Boonesborough. An absolutely great television show which is definitely one of the best. Below is a list of episodes included in this 8-disc set.

The American Frontier As Seen By "The Great Society" 3 out of 5 stars.
4 of 7 people found this review helpful.

The 165 one-hour episodes (45 in B&W, 120 in color) of the frontier western "Daniel Boone" originally aired on NBC from 1964-1970. So this DVD set is the third of six seasons for this extremely popular baby boomer show. The show itself may seem a little odd today due to an uncharacteristic emphasis on racial/ethnic diversity (insert Ed Ames as Mingo and NFL lineman Rosey Grier as Gabe Cooper). But the times were a-changing as the country tried to turn itself into LBJ's "Great Society" and network executives smelled an opportunity to cash in on the baby boomer's budding social awareness.

The series moved between a domestic focus on Boone's family (Patricia Blair as wife Rebecca, Veronica Cartwright as daughter Jemima, and Darby Hinton as his son Israel) to "one-with-the-wilderness"/"the British are evil" themes. The series focused on Boone after he had moved to Kentucky.

Daniel was played by Fess Parker who already had an established coonskin cap franchise from his mid-1950's Disney TV portrayal of Davy Crockett. Boone is played as an even tempered peaceful man who likes to chum around in the woods with Oxford educated Indians and runaway black slaves (see above), your basic 1770's flower child. Other than his confrontations with "the man" (represented by those nasty Redcoats) there is very little messy violence and lots of "Little House on the Prairie" moments.

Cartwright, the most talented of the ensemble, is frustratingly underutilized. Particularly given that the most celebrated event in the real Daniel Boone's life was the rescue of his daughter and her two friends from Indian kidnappers.

Cartwright bailed out after season two and was replaced by budding sausage king Jimmy Dean as Josh Clements, in the tradition Chester and Festus from "Gunsmoke".

Then again, what do I know? I'm only a child.

Not as good as previous seasons 3 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I love this series!
However, while I give Seasons 2 and 3 Five Stars (Season 1 had not yet hit a stride), this Season (4) has some problems:

1) The writing just isn't as good as the previous 2 seasons. Too much Israel Boone, and too much of the same type of story with the British, and too many "unbelievable" situations. Sometimes Boone is made to look like a weakling while Israel saves his life! Give me a break.
2) The audio is out of sync on these episodes sometimes. Funny because on one of the Bonus Features they talk about how much care the put into cleaning up the audio and video. As someone in the industry I can tell you that there is no excuse for not having the audio sync up, it's just sloppiness. Someone did not do their job correctly and no one supervised to check and fix it.
3) Jemimah Boone just disappears with no explanation. No great loss, but kind of annoying when people just disappear.
4) Mingo is not in enough episodes.

#1 above is the MAIN problem, though - the others are just minor problems.

I would recommend this season only if you're a completist and want to have the entire collection. If you're only buying one or two sets, buy season 2 and season 3.

I don't know how Seasons after this are, I haven't seen them. Hopefully it does not go further downhill, but usually once a series begins to "jump the shark", there is no going back... And I'd say it jumped the shark in Season 4.

Daniel Boone Season 5 5 out of 5 stars.

I'm a kid again as I watch the 5th season of Daniel Boone from the 1960's. I love the special features and Liberation has done a wonderful job restoring the shows! If you want a good story (though not historically accurate) with solid family values introduce yourself and your family to Daniel Boone - it's timeless!
