Where are the rest of the Seasons! Why make us wait and wait! 5 out of 5 stars.

I feel like the studios are 'teasing' us by releasing one or two seasons of our favorite shows then the rest of the seasons are lost in oblivion!! Why bother to get us hooked again then we are left 'holding the bag, and an empty bag' at that.
It is so unfair to the fans of a great show like 'Family'. When I saw the 1st & 2nd seasons come out on DVD, I ran to buy the set. I think I must have watched all the episodes within 2 days. I just love this show; it had interesting plots, great characters and true to life stories. I felt like I was 13 again. What a terrific show and to not continue with the entire show's run on DVD is extremely irritating- Why not just put the rest of the seasons out in one big set and end the debate. I would rather buy all the seasons at once then in dribs and drabs.... PLEASE! We need more 'Family'!!!

Thanks to the REAL fans here that saved me from wasting money on edited re-runs. I understand that some are glad to just get Mama's Family at all, but they need to understand they're only going to hurt us all in the end. If we stick to our guns and say, "NO SALE ON EDITED RE-RUNS", you'll discover how fast the Warner company can release the COMPLETE episodes. They've pulled this same act before with other television shows. Warner has done such a tremendous disservice to Mama's Family. No sale!

Poor Mama, I live with crazy people too! This is the perfect drawing-room drama/comedy, it brings back a lot of memories watching it, I used to watch this with my grandmother. The most interesting thing is how the writers tell us so much with a few well-chosen words, without showing us, unlike the smut on tv today. Much of the humor is very innocent.

I wish WB would release the second season, even if it is edited, I just want to see my favorite characters without commercials!! I love Betty White and Carol Burnett...I didn't really like the newer episodes, Iola got on my nerves!

From the director of such classics as Late Spring, Tokyo Story, and Floating Weeds, Criterion brings us a 3-disc collection from Japanese auteur Yasujiro Ozo. Although he has not yet reached the wide-spread acclaim of fellow countryman Akira Kurosawa, Ozu is starting to gain the recognition that he rightfully deserves.

Ozu began his career as a cameraman, and with hard work and determination he finally ascended the ladder to director. Once his position was earned, Ozu poured his creativity onto film with unmatched diligence, producing nearly half of his 50+ films in the first five years of his career. Sadly, many of these films are now lost, which adds to the enjoyment of these extraordinary, previously unreleased films from Criterion.


As the title suggests, the films in this collection were released during a portion of Ozu's silent career, ranging from 1931-1933. Ozu, along with the majority of the Japanese film industry, was somewhat hesitant about entering into talkies based upon the belief that emotions could be best conveyed with movements, expressions, and atmosphere, not dialogue. Ozu's first talkie was not released until 1936, the same year as Chaplin's final silent masterpiece, Modern Times. This period of his career marked Ozu's transition into social criticism as he both subtly and blatantly expresses his discontent with the culture of pre-WWII Japan.

Included films:

Tokyo Chorus (1931) - A man is fired from his job for reasons that would normally be viewed as commendable. The film from here follows his social and financial downfall as he does anything he possibly can to support his family. As in the other films in this collection, the plot of Tokyo Chorus sounds very dramatic but Ozu has a certain way of shedding a positive light onto each situation.

I Was Born, But... (1932) - A story of the hardships of childhood and the ways in which children view their parents in unappreciative and misconstrued ways. A comedy with some serious overtones.

Passing Fancy (1933) - The final film in this collection is about the unstable relationship of a widower and his son. It focuses on a child's attempts to help an alcoholic parent while also being resentful of the unstoppable forces of change.

And just in case anyone needs to know I'll post the technical aspects of the films as well.

And its been a long overdue. Uncle Bill, Mr. French, Buffy, Jody, Cissy & Mrs. Beasley in crisp, fresh prints & on DVD for those of us who enjoy nostalgia (baby boomers, if you will) & a whole generation of new fans to enjoy.

Why Family Affair never got the exposure the Brady Bunch did & others of this period, will continue to astound me, as this is indeed a classic of its kind & in my opinion far superior to other silly '60s shows like The Brady Bunch & The Partridge Family, which were also family sitcoms of this particular genre.

Overall, Family Affair still holds up well after all these years, so if this isn't a perfect example of a fine classic that stands the test of time, I don't know what is.

...when it comes to this, or any other tv-series-on-DVD multi-season pack, my advice is to do some calculating and comparing because buying each season of a series individually might be a better deal in many cases.

GREAT BOXSET...BUT DOES THIS MEAN THE END TO FAMILY TIES ON DVD? 5 out of 5 stars.

Anyone who appreciates this show is probably as excited as I am that it can now be purchased in one convenient boxset. However, I have noticed a pattern developing with Paramount television series being released on DVD. It seems they produce 60% of a particular T.V. season in a decent amount of time, next they release a boxset of all previously released DVDs together... then production stops altogether.

For example the first three seasons of "Taxi" came to us fairly quickly then a boxset of all three seasons together graced the department store shelves only to have Paramount cut us off completely after that. The last two seasons are still not out and any sort of release date or even a mention of production of such seasons is nonexistent.

Has anyone else noticed this? Does this boxset signify the extinction of Family Ties on DVD? Feel free to comment, rant, and rave...
