Warren Buffett 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

We are in the middle of the most serious economic crisis since the Depression. Charlie Rose brings on the man who is arguably the most successful business- person in America, the richest man in the world on the Fortune list of 2007. Buffett comes after a day in which he has made special deals with Goldman,Sachs, and GE buying into them and receiving preferential stock. He reportedly had a cash hoard of thirty billion dollars and is ready to pick up the bargains available at present market prices. However there is also an element of his wanting to support American business, including GE which is one of the great flagships. Nonetheless Buffett's personal considerations his career as investor are not at the heart of this interview.
Instead Buffett gives a lesson on the Economy and the Crisis it is in.. He talks about the present crisis, explaining the real-estate bubble, the credit- crunch and the need for passing the bailout package. He describes the Economy by likening it to a patient who has just had a serious heart attack. The patient demands immediate treatment. So he says the bailout package must be passed immediately. This is to keep the credit markets open for without them the capitalist economy cannot work and run.
Buffett speaks with encouragement about the American economy, its flexibility, its greatness. He does some boosterism, in a very patriotic way. He is trying to restore peoples' confidence and get them moving economically again.
He in the course of this displays a generosity of spirit, and says what is important is that all the world prosper, and the growth of the Chinese economy is seen by him as positive.
His thought seems confined to the economic, and not really move into the political realm. And this when it is mentioned in the course of the interview that he supports Obama.
Buffett does recognize the current balance problem the fact that each day America spends two billion dollars more than it sells to the world. This means America is slowly being bought up by those outside America. But his emphasis is on the strength and power of the American economy. He points out that incomes have risen to seven times in his lifetime.
However Buffett does seem troubled about the prospect of Inflation in the near future. So despite the joviality in the discussion( A joviality which seems at times a bit overdone , considering the circumstances) there is a certain worry projected through and by the whole interview. And this when the great knowledge and success of Buffet do also give throughout the interview, a sense that he really knows what he is talking about, and that the great American economy will continue to roll on, if not as unregulated and confident, as before.

Tim Russert remembered 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Timothy John Russert (May 7, 1950 - June 13, 2008).
This show is a tribute to the renowned broadcaster and journalist whose sudden death from a heart- attack shocked and saddened people all over America.
The show consists in an interview with Russert's close - friend the journalist Al Hunt, a number of excerpts from Russert's twelve appearances on the 'Charlie Rose ' show and a closing especially moving tribute by Charlie Rose for his colleague and good friend.
Russert was a much- loved figure not only because of his dedication and professional skill in hosting 'Meet the Press',but also because he was a warm, ethical, principled patriotic American. The work he was most proud of was the memoir he wrote about his father, Big Russ, whose values Russert learned from and lived by.
The conversations with Charlie Rose reveal Russert as a man of sense, decency good humor and good will. His love for politics and his love for his family were the center of his life.
This is a case where for many the loss of a public figure is felt as a personal loss.

Editorial Review:

An appreciation of Tim Russert with fellow journalist and friend Al Hunt. Russert died of an apparent heart attack while recording a voiceover for Meet the Press in Washington, D.C. on June 13, 2008. He had just returned from family vacation in Italy, which celebrated his son's graduation. This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. Charlie Rose interview with Tim Burton and Johnny Depp 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I have seen both gentlemen interviewed many times and I thought this was one of the best. The insight that Mr. Burton provided as to his vision of film-making was outstanding. Mr. Depp seemed more relaxed than usual while talking to an interviewer. He also revealed things that I had not heard before.

I would definitely recommend this video to any Depp or Burton admirer.

I LOVED IT 5 out of 5 stars.

The Brothers Emanuel 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Charlie Rose brings out the best his guests have to give. He shows an empathy and understanding that makes them relaxed and open. Here he has a conversation with the three Emanuel brothers: The oldest Ezekiel is an oncologist, the second Rahm is the fourth ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives, the third Avi is a well- known Hollywood Agent. On the show the brothers show themselves caring, involved and loving. Their humor and intense intellects make the show both entertaining and informative.
At the end of the show Ezekiel presents a ten- point Healthcare Plan for America, which brother Rahm questions the political feasibility of.
But the heart of the show is the family dynamic and example.
A heartening show.

Editorial Review:

A discussion about healthcare with Ezekiel, Ari, and Rahm Emanuel. || A conversation with Lance Armstrong about his Livestrong organization, cancer, cancer prevention and cycling. || A conversation with filmmaker Sue Williams about Frontline's Young & Restless in China. Shot over four years, the film follows a group of nine young Chinese from across the country as they scramble to keep pace with a society changing as fast as any in history. Their stories of ambition and desire, exuberance, crime and corruption are interwoven with moments of heartache and despair. Together they paint an intimate portrait of the generation that is remaking China. This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. One of the all- time comic greats 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

1) This was enjoyable.
2) I do not live in America and do not watch television. I saw this on YouTube which has put me back in touch a bit with the American entertainment world. Thus I was seeing this at a real 'gap' in time from the time that I took interest in this world.
3) Rickles has held up well. At eighty- one he has all his marbles. A trifle slower and milder, but nonetheless all there and capable of cracking us up with one fast - insult.
4) Charlie Rose is not simply a very smart guy. He is a very emotionally intelligent guy. He knows his guests, and he knows how to respect them and get the best out of them. He senses things. He's sharp. He did a very good job here.
5) Rickles was here on a promo for a book he has done called 'Rickles' My own sense is that with him the 'live performance' beats the book. But in any case he tells many of the well- known stories here- Sinatra, Carson.
6) He comes through as 'the tough mean guy outside' with the good heart within.
7) When he was on a roll no one was funnier than him.
8) His statement about not insulting anyone but only truthtelling, should be taken with a grain of salt.
9) All in all it is sad to think that he is one of the few of that era who are left. Buddy Hackett is gone , Alan King ( who Rickles 'mother wanted him to be like)is gone . Uncle Miltie one of Rickles early heroes is also gone. Carson who helped him more than anyone else is up there somewhere double- taking.
10) Rickles said he will go on doing what he does until he can no longer do it. Let's hope its until 120, at least.

Good To Great - And More 3 out of 5 stars.

This is an interesting interview, I am also hoping that Rose interviews Bob Prosen author of "Kiss Theory Good Bye" because Good to Great is about why companies do well, Execution by Larry Bossidy is certainly what they do well, and Prosen's book shows how your company can do well.

Quite interesting! 4 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

This DVD is an interesting item to collect for lovers of The West Wing. It was recorded around the time of the end of Season 2. I was a bit surprised that Allison Janney wasn't more of a focus in the question and answers - she seemed content to be an observer most of the time. Or maybe that was the way it was edited. Also the sound quality is not great. It is often difficult to hear comments and funny asides the actors make when the microphone is not on them. Anyway, I enjoy having this among my collection and I think other people would too.

Editorial Review:

A hour-long dialogue with the creative team behind the hit television show, The West Wing. Creator Aaron Sorkin and actors John Spencer, Bradley Whitford, Allison Janney, Richard Schiff and Martin Sheen discuss the incredible success -- both popular and critical -- of the show and why their presentation of the American political system has garnered so much positive feedback. They look into the challenges facing the cast on a show of this pace and intensity.
