Funny and Family Friendly! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is a great series that actually relies on wit rather than the "sex sells" mentality that is so prevalient in today's comedy shows. (Granted there is some minor sexual innuendo, but it is very few and far between.)
A great addition for your comedy collection that the whole family can enjoy!

Got Smarter ! 5 out of 5 stars.

It was a great trip down memory lane seeing these old shows again. Don Adams' comedic timing is impeccable, no one has that kind of timing these days. Barbara Feldon looks and sounds yummy throughout, what a dish ! Ed Platt is hilarious as the deadpan put-upon chief. Feldon also introduces each episode and her voice is as girlish as ever which is a real treat. The 60s really were an excellent ride for us all as far as TV and music were concerned. This a great set, worth every penny !

Get Smart: Season One 5 out of 5 stars.

Just as I remember it from back in the 60's. The color enhancement looks great. Many laughs.

I live in Australia and have bought DVDs from Amazon before and they have played on my DVD player and this one didn't. I was very disappointed I have to say. I can play it on my computer so I can see it, but that isn't the same as in the lounge chair with my feet up.

No Subtitle nor closed caption for this TV series! 1 out of 5 stars.
8 of 21 people found this review helpful.

I was deeply surprised and disappointed that there was no closed caption and even, no subtitle since I am hearing impaired. "Get Smart" TV series was one of my favorite TV series of all time. I had a difficult time to listen what they said on television series. I need subtitle or closed caption in order to understand clearly. How could the market ignore our concern? Obviously, they are still discriminating against hearing impaired and semi-illerate people who need to read and listen English in order to improve their educational standard as well as assimiate into Ameican culture. Shame on you for your bigotry and prejudice treatments to our hearing impaired society as the second class citizens!

Editorial Review:

This particular Get Smart is the Fox television network's 1995 revival of the CBS hit show that debuted 30 years earlier. A softer, less satirical and less worldly version of the original show that was created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, the new Get Smart nevertheless brings Don Adams back to the role of Maxwell Smart, agent 86 for counter-intelligence agency Control. Married to former agent 99 (Barbara Feldon), now a U.S. Congresswoman, Max is the new Chief of Control, bungling through his desk job yet somehow still managing to stymie the evil forces of Kaos. In a way, Get Smart isn't really Adams' or Feldon's show anymore. The two are seen frequently enough, but much of the comic action now belongs to Andy Dick as the Smarts' son Zach, who graduates to full agent in the series' premiere episode. A bumbler with an inflated sense of his expertise, Zach is very much Max's son. Continuing the parallel between generations, Zach is also paired with an attractive and more professional agent, 66 (Elaine Hendrix), who gradually warms to him over several episodes. Good thing, because that's all there is: after seven programs, Get Smart came to an end, and that's all this DVD has to offer. Even if it isn't brilliant, the family-friendly show has a lot of funny moments, particularly when Dick gets to engage his talent for physical comedy. His interactions with Hendrix occasionally border on classic screwball comedy, a nice balance with the obvious warmth between Adams and Feldon. --Tom Keogh

"Is it a mystery?
Is it a mystery?

I'm spinning out of control
Out of control"
(Hoobastank)

Short Attention Span Summary (SASS):

1. Bruce (Masi Oka) and Lloyd (Nate Torrence) are gadget geeks working for the secret spy agency CONTROL
2. They develop an invisibility cloak
3. It gets stolen
4. They have to get it back

This is a simultaneous spin-off to the movie "Get Smart", allegedly taking part during the time frame of the movie. About five other movie characters appear in this very short (71 minutes) parody, some only as brief cameos.

It's not great cinema, but it manages to raise a few chuckles without resorting to potty humor, foul language, tired sight gags or gross-out scenes.

Exactly what you thought it'd be
For something straight to DVD
It has no wisdom to impart
And won't push viewers to "Get Smart"

Still getting smart 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

Smart. Maxwell Smart. The dumbest spy in the world, who fights on behalf of the forces of goodness and niceness, and succeeded in making democracy vs. communism a lot more entertaining. And the second season of spies, lies and kookiness only gets funnier, with Don Adams and Barbara Feldon continuing to save the free world.

Don Adams is Agent 86, Maxwell Smart, a not-so-bright spy with an endless arsenal of strange devices and odd sayings. The bumbling spy at a top-secret government agency called Control, which tirelessly works to keep the free world free. He's accompanied by his capable partner/love interest Agent 99 (Barbara Feldon), and overseen by the long-suffering Chief (Eward Platt) who puts up with Smart's constant mistakes.

The second season starts off rockily, with KAOS reprogramming Hymie to murder the Chief, and soon they step up their attacks against CONTROL: KAOS's new leader Siegfried (Bernie Kopell) kidnaps the Chief, and Max responds by kidnapping KAOS's top assassin... unfortunately sparking off a bunch of revenge kidnappings, until nobody is left at either organization.

As the season goes on, Max encounters new obstacles and plots against the free world -- he fakes his death, impersonates a safecracker, goes to Casablanca, tries to solve serial killings in the tropics, works in a circus, suffers amnesia, and is pursued by an evil big game hunter, a la "The Most Dangerous Game."

And what's more, and 99 have to deal with art thieves, submarines, mummies, beauty pageants, Arab princes, mouthy KAOS parrots, CONTROL being closed down, smiling killers, bronze paint, the Choker, going to jail, and a seductive woman who may be the dismantlement of Hymie.

The important development of "Get Smart's" second season is that Max finally gets a regular nemesis. As Holmes had his Moriarty, so Max has his Siegfried: a heel-cracking German with an exuberant sidekick, and a catchphrase of his own ("Ve don't ____ here!"). Siegfried isn't in every episode, but he crops up often enough to be worth noting.

Basically, the second season polishes up the kooky spy antics of the first, with more slapstick antics, delightfully weird problems (Max as head of the CONTROL workers' union?), and movie homages ("Goldfinger," "The Most Dangerous Game," "Casablanca"). Not to mention those wonderfully improbable gadgets ("Why hide a tape recorder in a camera and a camera in a tape recorder? Why not just take pictures with the camera, and record with the recorder?" "Because my mind doesn't work that way, that's why!").

Don Adams is the heart of the series, with his quirky face, nasal voice, odd body language and confident catchphrases ("And loving it!"). Max is not your usual inept spy -- he's confident that he's suave and competant, and somehow this carries him through to the end. Barbara Feldon plays a wonderful straight woman to Max's goofiness, while Edward Platt is just wonderful as the long-suffering Chief.

As for the new characters: Kopell is hysterical as "Zigfried," an excitable Germanic KAOS agent who is constantly thwarted by Max, which tends to upset him. David Ketchum is introduced as the aptly named Agent 13, an unlucky guy who is always hiding in tiny unpleasant spaces (garbage cans, freezers).

"Get Smart" didn't get smarter in its second season, but it definitely got better, especially with the introduction of Siegfried. Definitely a must see, for fans of spies and madcap comedy.

As good as it ever was! 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 11 people found this review helpful.

Yes, we saw this growing up. When anyone hears the name MAX this is what comes to mind! The show was simply amazing. And so are the DVDs.

There are lots of reviews here so I will keep this short so you read it.

GOOD: The shows are in order. There are narrated episodes that explain why the car in the opening scene went from red to blue. Stories about how Don Adams studied his script are simply amazing. There is more behind the scenes stuff here than you can imagine. All the episodes have the full into and end credits. No shaving. Highest quality too.

BAD: If the price is too high for you, wait five years when the value will be through the roof! Truly this is worth the price. Okay that's not really bad. The only bad I saw was from the original production. Maybe the camera lens had a hair in it,and when you use two cameras to shoot a show, you keep seeing that hair. That's it!

POINTS: As I try to catch every detail now,I see the limitations on reality. I can see Don's stunt double. I see continuity errors. I even saw a huge spelling error in a scene on a government building sign. Was that a joke that the props department did or did no one check them?

Get it. Remember, "He who hesitates...how does that go again 99?"
