Truly, not funny. One of the most repulsive television shows ever. Throwing shock after shock at the viewer does not equal funny. This series has no heart.

One more thing. From the BBC site: "Although there's a laughter track, it's hardly noticeable." They lie.

FINALLY....that question has been answered!! Herr Lipp is featured, along with his wife and choir (pronounced "queer") boys. This is by far the funniest of the three stories (the others featuring charlie/stella and Dr. Chinnery). If you're a fan of Herr Lipp (who isn't?), this is a must purchase.

Be warned that this is more like Series 3, and it's pretty dark (duh) for a Christmas Special.

If you like the dark side of the BBC, then why haven't you purchased this DVD yet? Dark, disturbing, occasionally gross, thought provoking (and not necessarily in a good way). Hilarious in places, just plain odd, in others. Things that make you go "hmmmm"... I loved it.

TLOG is one of the best things to come from Great Britain's TV scene since Monty Python, and I can certainly recommend it for all BBC fans. Just don't try to watch and eat dinner at the same time... (You were warned...)

Just really gross humor -- and I'm a Margaret Cho fan. This DVD is awful, embarrassing, and leaves one feeling that humanity may not have turned out to be a worthwhile experiment afterall.

I will make this very easy for you....buy all three seasons, only watch them in the proper order, at least for the first time through, and you will be rewarded with the most unbelievable viewing experience. This is without a doubt the funniest, best acted, best written British TV show ever. The League of Gentlemen are the 3 best actors I have ever seen. Each play around 30 characters in the 3 seasons, most of which are reoccurring characters that come alive and evolve over the course of the show. Every so often, new characters come in and go, but the core characters endear and grow.
That is why it is very important to watch this in the proper order as the characters grow, you grow with them. This troupe of 3 male actors is best when portraying women, which seems to be an English thing, but all of the characters are amazing.
Listen....I cannot do this series justice here. I can only tell you that if you watch this show from beginning to end, it will become clear. The end of the show is just perfect. The characters all fall into place. They all make sense and you will understand the genius of the 4 who wrote the series, and the 3 of them who bring the characters to life.
Please, I beg you, try it...you will not believe how well crafted it is.

The first two series of "The League of Gentlemen" were fantastic, but it's the third that elevates the show into cult history. The bloody, demented sitcom is now a series of six short films, all linked together by the fatal car accident that ends each episode.

The third series sees the return of fan favorites like Pauline, the monstrous restart officer with a passion for pens; Geoff Tipps, the squat, gun-toting businessman with the world's shortest fuse; Charlie and Stella, a bitter, bickering couple with an invisible daughter, Julie; and even Papa Lazarou, one of television's scariest villians, who kidnaps local women and forces them to travel with him as part of his sideshow. We're also introduced to new characters like aspiring magician Dean Tavalouris, Dr. Carlton, a physician who loves child's party games, and Keith Drop, the Charity Shop's new clerk with a sinister secret. Car bombs and kidnappings, a prosthetic arm with a mind of its own, beauty pagaents, an invincible car called Maxie Power- the third series of "The League of Gentlemen" is darker, sicker, more twisted than the two that came before. Highly recommended for fans of black humor.

After a flabbergasting first season, the League of Gentlemen pick up their bizarre world of Royston-Vasey exactly where they left off, but infuse it with nitroglycerin with the arrival of a circus and its Al Jolson made up figure of Papa Lazarou. The scene where he kidnaps another wife (apparently he calls all of them Dave) and puts her in a lions cage with the rest of his collection, hosing them down ... well, it almost drove me insane ... with laughter. I felt like my reality had been changed.

The League's brand of humor mixed with horror might not be for everyone, but I loved it. If you like Monty Python's The Meaning of Life's brand of disgusting satire, the League of Gentlemen is the next logical step.

I loved the first season. Just loved it! Now that I finally got my hands on the second and third series it's more clear to me why I loved the first season so much. The first season was extraordinary British humor that we Americans don't get enough of. It was over the top, razor sharp wit with just enough real-world infused into it to make us all see ourselves in it and laugh that much harder. The second series is a rather different approach and departure with more blood and gore than anything else. It's not bad it's just not that good...if you know what I mean. The skits become so out-there that they lose a good portion of their punch. The "local" story goes to a place that is so silly you just start shaking your head rather than laughing. I am personally still morning the death of this brillant humor....
