Last good season 3 out of 5 stars.

Although the special effects were improved for season two, the stories were not quite as strong as in season one. I did enjoy some of these episodes, especially The Pylon Express. And listening to the commentary on The Longest Day may have been worth the price of the DVD set alone.

If you enjoyed Land of the Lost or want to share it with your own children, I'd recommend Seasons One and Two.

Second Season is even better. 5 out of 5 stars.

Return to the Land of the Lost, with the Sleestaks, the Lost City and the Pylons. But now add such great ideas as the new alien called the Zarn, the Library of Skulls and the Mist Marsh. With writers such as Theodore Sturgeon and the return of such actors such as Walker Edmission who plays Enik the second season is even better. The unlimited imagination and the advanced science fiction plots are piled onto the solid framework from the first season. Like a good cake that finally gets some home made icing.
But we also see the evolution of the family. They are working together to survive - the cave has a lived in look, the ropes and pulleys they have made, the new tools and even clothing they have created. They show us how the Marshalls test new plants and food on animals and deal with daily life. They wish to escape yet at the same time try to make the Land of the Lost a home.

Editorial Review:

It's time to get "Lost" all over again. But be on guard! Keep your eyes peeled for Sleestak! Because the big green meanies are back - now even more dangerous than ever before. You'd best watch your step or you just might find yourself standing alone before the dreaded Library of Skulls- and that's but one of the many perils awaiting you in this second spine-tingling season of the legendary Land of the Lost.

Long live the Sleestack nation! 5 out of 5 stars.

Hey all the sleestaks ever wanted was to get the white bread, crackers out of their jungle. Put yourself in their shoes! A family of clowns from some useless midwestern town pull into your hood and want to instill their brand of american justice. WTF yo!?! The lizard brothers should have talked to our native american brothers. Great show...a little biased against green folks.

Editorial Review:

Then stumble once again onto the ruins of Lost City. No matter which path of adventure you choose to follow - above all else: Beware of Sleestak! For heeding that last little bit of advice alone should assure you survival in this anything-but-routine expedition with Marshall, Will, and Holly. Grab hold to the side of the raft! The falls lie just up ahead. Hang on, now! You'll soon be glad to have rediscovered the LAND OF THE LOST.

It is a kid's show... 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

A two headed dinosaur, Medusa and a fire-breathing dinosaur who likes to eat coal. Oh, and don't forget the Flying Dutchmen. The third season of Land of the Lost does not even TRY to hide behind science or well written stories. No, they just start tossing in any old thing. The Sleestak listen to those bored sulks in the library WAY too much. And, frankly, too many of the episodes centered on them. In other words the writers were running out of ideas and I guess weren't paid enough to think up good, original ones. When did Enik become so self-centered and why does Cha-Ka know so many English words now? But still it was just a kids' show. Just keep telling yourself that. It was just a kids' show.

Still very Entertaining! 5 out of 5 stars.

I don't really understand the bad reviews for the third season? Sure Rick Marshall left the show...SO What, Uncle Jack does a good job filling his boots. I mean you have to remember this was a kids show on Saturday morning...I know because I was there back then, I'm 47 now and still enjoy this show. The new sets are awesome, also like the new monsters. and I'm glad they got away from spending too much time trying to learn Pakuni language in the first two seasons...and now Chaka just speaks our language. Kathy Coleman's acting has improved and it's fun to see her growing up on the show.
Just imagine if this were the only episodes they ever made of Land Of The Lost, it is still very cool and entertaining show regardless if it meets up to the critics reviews...I like it and thats whats counts, and you should to if your not swayed away by the negative reviews...nothing can touch it today...I can't stand todays Saturday morning shows, they are so "politicaly correct" and mostly about rich spoiled kids...who cares...they don't even make sense to me.
I gave this third season 5 stars because these types of shows are gone forever and I'm not going to put it down.

A minor sci-fi classic 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I was just a little too young to watch this program during its original 1974-77 run, but NBC continued to broadcast the reruns of the program throughout 1977 and '78, and by then, at the age of about 10, I started watching in and was quite the fan at that time. Then the show went of the air by the time I was about 12, and I never saw a rerun of it again until just a few weeks ago when I purchased this set.

Recovering from a foot surgery about a month ago, I I had bought it specifically to kill time while recovering and I actually watched the entire series in the spce of two chair-ridden days. I was surprised how much I remembered about some of the plots, considering it has been about 28 years or more since I last saw any of the episodes, but that fact in itself bespeaks how well written some of the episodes were -- well enough written for the plots to stay in the memory banks for all that time.

Obviously the technology at the time (and the budget) means that the special effects seem primitive, especially the dinosaurs and the Sleestak costumes. But in other aspects, the artificially created landscapes actually still hold up quite well, and trick camera work mostly works.

The four things that really make this a minor classic are (1) the well written plots of many (though not all) of the episodes of the first two seasons. (2) The well conceived continuity of the storylines, shwoing how the family gradually adapts to the environment and learns about the world they have been tossed into. (3) A very well thought out and well rounded system of laws and technology that govern the nature of the fictitious universe they are in (many of which went way over my head at the age of 11, and it was only with this recent viewing that I really understand many of these elements. (4) The dynamic among the family. Although no mother is present, the father, son and daughter have present a tight knit and caring family. The kids bicker a bit, as siblings do, but you do get the sense that they truly love one another and that this bond is a key factor in their survival. This was still the time when "father knew best", and the kids learn lessons from their adventures and become more self reliant as time passs.

The third season is not quite as well written as the first 2, and the changeover from the father to the uncle might not be particularly clever and smacks of too much coincidence, but there still are some good stories in the final season.

Editorial Review:

Marshall Will and Holly may have been on a routine expedition when they entered the Land of the Lost but there was nothing routine about Sid & Marty Krofft's vision for this groundbreaking Saturday morning television series of the 1970s. Joining acclaimed science-fiction writers like David Gerrold Larry Niven D.C. Fontana Norman Spinrad and Theodore Sturgeon with cutting edge makeup and visual effects teams the Kroffts raised the bar for sophisticated intelligent and entertaining programming. The result was a fantastic odyssey on the planet of Altrusia filled with dinosaurs Sleedstak Pakunis and visitors from alternate dimensions. The Marshall family-Rick Will Holly and later Uncle Jack-were strangers in a stranger land but they survived by their wits compassion and sense of humor. Includes all 43 original uncut episodes on 8 discs.System Requirements:Running Time: 18 hoursFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/CLASSICS UPC: 603497050727 Manufacturer No: 970507

Laudable, but not Original 3 out of 5 stars.
18 of 19 people found this review helpful.

The Kultur series is notorious for making works that are really just dry slideshow lectures. However, this one had reenactments and actually people being interviewed, so it moved more effectively.
Few works cover both the Aztecs and the Mayans. I appreciate that this work covered both, but it may confuse imprudent viewers who could collapse the two civilizations together.
This work confirms what most works on these peoples say. The Mayan civilization declined before European contact, the Aztecs had indigenous enemies, they believed strongly in human sacrifices, and the Aztec people themselves killed their leader Moctezuma II. For those who know much about the Aztecs and Mayas, this work will say nothing new. I applaud the work for saying the Mayans and Aztecs have descendants who live and speak the ancient languages to this day.
This disc was really made for a European audience. Though I understood the British narrator, the academic interviewees had accents so strong, a Yankee like myself just couldn't understand it.
I think this work may be too boring for an elementary class, but it would be okay for high school students. Those fascinated by ancient cultures should appreciate it.

Memories NOT LOST! 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 9 people found this review helpful.

I grew up watching Sid & Marty Krofft shows! I remember this one the most! Every Saturdat morning I would wait for it to come on and you couldn't pry me away from the Television! (I did cover my eyes immediately when the sleestacks came on, for some reason I was deathly afraid of them back then...I also referred to them as the "sweestacks" and my parents still laugh at me to this day!)

Anyway, I wanted to share my Saturday morning experience with my son because we were recently discussing what was on when I was young. At first I was unsure on which disc to buy. I know that the entire first season is out, but this disc has two great interviews with both Holly and Cha-ka that I think made this disc worth the money. (Along with the episodes that are included on the disc of course!) I loved my Saturday's with the Marshall family : )

It's been fun revisiting my childhood and the Land of the Lost. I have great memories and now they are just a dvd away! It's great to see these older shows coming to dvd and I highly recommend them to anyone that was young or old growing up in the 1970's!

Don't Do Stak 4 out of 5 stars.
33 of 33 people found this review helpful.

Although I own all three box sets of Land of the Lost, I bought this DVD particularly for the Sleestak commentary. I was ssssssssssslightly disssssssssssssapointed. First, on the cover it says that the commentary is for the Fair Trade episode when it is actually on the Blackout episode, but I guessssssssssssssssss it doesn't really matter ssssssssssssssssince I don't sssssssspeak sleestak. I was under the asssssssssssumption when I ordered this DVD that the actor who played the part of the sleestak was going to do commentary when it is actually sssssssssssssssssssomeone hissssssssssssssssing throughout the entire episode, a very evil way to market a "Best Of" collection to consumers who have all the episodes already.

The only reason I gave this DVD four stars is because the episodes on it are all very good. Here they are in order:

1. "The Sleestak God" from Season One, The Marshalls' first encounter with the sleestak. "Yo sareesataka!!"
2. "Fair Trade" from Season Two, Will and Holly have to save their dad from the meanie greenies after Rick is accidentally captured by them.
3. "Blackout" the final episode from Season Two, Enik asks the Marshalls for help when the sleestak steal a crystal from the matrix table in the second clock pylon and plunge the Land of the Lost into eternal darkness.
4. "Repairman" from Season Three, the sleestak are at it again, this time using another matrix table to fry the Marshalls and everything else out of the Land of the Lost.

If you only want a taste of the Land of the Lost without having to spend the money on the box sets, then buy this DVD. But for the price and the value of what is on the box sets, I highly recommend picking up Seasons One and Two. If you really like those ones then get Season Three, you won't be disappointed (especially if you're in your 30's and watched Land of the Lost on TV in the 70's and 80's, or if you have kids younger than 16).

Editorial Review:

We have met the enemy, and they are weird. They're tall, green, and ugly. Their speech sounds like radio static, and they don't do well in sunlight. These primative but dangerous descendents of the highly advanced Altrusian race are known in the Land of the of Lost as the Sleestak. Four tense episodes selected from all three seasons focus squarely on the Marshall family's battles with their creepiest foes.

And of course found it on Amazon! This is the episode of the Care Bears that I always remembered watching, but I thought I would never be able to find! There is Professor Coldheart (who sings the coolest song!) and after enticing children who don't care to spend time in his castle, the eventually become featureless blob-like creatures.
One of the best Care Bear episodes ever. I would recommend this to anyone who loved the movies.

Editorial Review:

Today, Australia, New Zealand and the Alaskan frontier of North America are characterized as beautiful vacation spots but these regions weren't always so inviting. Travel back in time tens of thousands of years and watch as our ancestors battle tooth and nail for survival against the monstrous creatures that once ruled these killing fields. The latest in CGI-animation brings each "alien" world to life, illustrating the impossible living conditions and the improbable creatures that called these areas home. The giant lizard Megalania, reaching more than 16 feet in length and weighing nearly 1,000 pounds, once terrorized Aboriginal settlers of Australia. New Zealand's early man battled the Haast's eagle a terrifying bird of prey that ruled from the air, since no terrestrial mammals existed at that time. And in the ice age ridden Americas, prehistoric hunters took on unthinkable creatures like giant, dog-like bears and the infamous saber-toothed cat, whose fangs were as big as a T. Rex's teeth. It's a startling look at a violent, predatory world from the safety of your own home.
