Back on the farm 4 out of 5 stars.

Who would have thought you can have a farm and live self sufficient in a suburb, but that is just what tom and Barbara did. It sure doesn't helpiving next door to snooty Margo. A very entertaining and belly laugh comedy.

Great collection of a classic series 4 out of 5 stars.

I used to watch this show when I was growing up, and seeing it again has brought back some great memories (plus now I get the more adult-oriented humor.) The show itself is just a fantastic comedy. Every character is lovable in their own way, and the humor varies from subtle to obvious. Also, as an American I enjoy listening to the language used in 70's London. You can read the synopsis yourself, I'll only say that if you enjoy class-oriented humor, and can tolerate not knowing what every word means, you'll love this show.

A Good Presentation 4 out of 5 stars.

I hadn't seen this series in decades and remembered it as being very funny; I'm a huge fan of anything with Penelope Keith. In this series about a suburban couple going self-sufficient, Ms. Keith plays Margo, their snobbish neighbor.

I have to admit that after one of the DVD's, the basic premise for the series started getting stale. Could just be me, but they seemed to stretch the series out for too many episodes.

However, it is amusing, and it's a good price. Video quality is good to excellent.

Wonderful Fun... 5 out of 5 stars.

"Good Neighbors" is one of the best Britcoms; I would highly recommend it to anybody wanting a good laugh, and it's clean! Watch for the episode titled "The Windbreak War"- the dialogue is priceless when the two sets of neighbors celebrate the renewal of their friendship with the Good's homemade "Pea-Pod burgundy." The humor is not so essentially British that it doesn't translate across the pond, as some Britcoms are. It's pretty universal. You won't regret purchasing this DVD. Cheers!

Britain's Best 5 out of 5 stars.

This is absolutely the best Britcom ever! It is just too bad that the show ended because we want more!! Even my kids, ages 10-15, love watching these episodes. We pull these out often and they are always a refreshing alternative to today's tv.

Good Neighbors series 4 5 out of 5 stars.

Editorial Review:

Here are the final seven episodes of the 1970s British comedy series, Good Neighbors (entitled The Good Life in England), a show that brilliantly captures the Zeitgeist of the '70s. The Goods, who quit the rat race for a life of subsistence farming, are next-door neighbors to the Ledbetters, some of the fastest rat-race runners around. At first, Margot and Jerry Ledbetter are horrified to see Tom and Barbara Good turn their tiny yard into a series of animal pens and vegetable gardens. But by the final episodes, the two couples have learned how to tolerate their differences and are the best of friends. There's an endless source of humor in this classic dichotomy of rich versus poor, snooty versus earthy. "Troglodytes!" the Ledbetters slam the Goods. "Gracious livers!" the Goods retaliate. There is also an abundant supply of silly scenes involving the Goods' suburban menagerie. The episode in which their chicken boards a passing bus goes delightfully over the edge. The British have always had a wonderful knack for poking fun at themselves, and this knack reaches a pinnacle in statuesque comedienne Penelope Keith's indelible creation of the character Margot Ledbetter. She's the quintessential status-obsessed snob, so preposterously genteel that she can wring three syllables out of the word "no." Keith's performance, especially, keeps Good Neighbors as fresh and funny as the day it was made. --Laura Mirsky

Editorial Review:

In Henry Shaw: The Good Neighbor, marking Henry Shaw's 200th birthday, brief reenactments at Shaw's house and readings of Shaw's letters make this fascinating man a living presence, a smart businessman as well as an admirable naturalist and landscape architect. Shaw was truly an amazing person, born in Sheffield, England in 1800. He provided the impetus and the inspiration for Tower Grove Park as well as the Botanical Gardens. It's no exaggeration to say he left a legacy still enjoyed by thousands today and promoting St. Louis, through the Gardens and their research, to the world.
