Well, what can you say about a show that started one of the biggest changes in the history of television?
I am glad that I have been there from the start and that I have this season on DVD so that I can relive some of the best moments over again.

For me, this was the start of something special that would forever change my Thursday nights like nothing before it. Because of this show, this is why nobody calls me on Thursdays nights between 8 and 9 because that is Survivor night!!!

Thanks Survivor!!!

Rat vs. Snake. 5 out of 5 stars.

Survivor - The Complete First Season became a sensation in 2000. Jeff Probst is the host and still is even though he's a cutie he gets on my nerves every now and then. The first season was a riot to say the least. Some memorable players like Jenna, Kelly, Sue, Richard, and Rudy. I just love the final episode, never been a tribal council quite like that still! This is the only season worth buying, enjoy!

I loved "Survivor, The Australian Outback". It had the best cast and most interesting location. The trials and tribulations these people went through was so interesting and heart-wrenching at times. It was nice to watch it after watching so many Survivor seasons set in tropical locations.

Never disappoints 5 out of 5 stars.

One of the best in the series 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This season had many things going for it -- characters that were colorful (James, Coby), eye candy (Jenn), and ones you'd root for (Angie, Steph, Bobby Jon, Tom). Most of the cast were highly likeable or at least enjoyable to watch, except maybe for Jolanda and Wanda (thank goodness they left early). Some great challenges, many broken alliances, a one-man tribe, the longest immunity challenge ever and even a laid-down torch all make for pretty riveting stuff. Eminently watchable and rewatchable...only wish they could have done more in terms of the extra features; the 4 featurettes didn't really whet the appetite of what went on behind the scenes or even offer never-before-seen footage. That apart, it was worth the buy, better than pearl islands and slightly edging out the all-stars version. I'm buying Australia (The Outback) next, though I'd really like to get my hands on the Africa series. Wonder when CBS will release it.

Editorial Review:

Producer/creator Mark Burnett unleashed a pop culture phenomenon--and changed the face of early-21st-century television--with his hugely popular reality series SURVIVOR. Singlehandedly ushering in the age of reality-television the action-adventure series more than lives up to its name as real-world contestants are divided into opposing teams and stranded in a remote location to compete in daredevil challenges in pursuit of a million-dollar prize. The team that wins each challenge earns either a prize or immunity while the losing team faces an elimination round where one member is ceremoniously dismissed. Adding a human element to the cutthroat competition are the personal interactions between team members which impact the game through strategic alliances--or dooming enmities. This collection presents every episode of the series' fascinating and highly watchable ninth season which takes place on the South Pacific archipelago of Vanuatu and includes such memorable survivors as Chris Scout Eliza and Sarge.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS Rating: UNRATED UPC: 097368873148 Manufacturer No: 887314

Editorial Review:

The seventh season of Survivor made a legend out of Rupert Boneham, the most popular contestant in the history of the kingpin reality show. Was it because the giant bear of a man harbored a gentle personality, expressed in his job as a mentor for troubled teens? Was it his tie-dyed shirt and makeshift skirt? Or was it just good fortune that the season was set in the Pearl Islands of Panama, which allowed black-bearded Rupert, in the very first episode, to steal the opposing tribe's shoes, all in the name of the pirate theme?

But the season wasn't only about Rupert. It got off to an unusual start when the 16 castaways were tossed overboard wearing their street clothes and left to find supplies in a small village. There was Armani-suited attorney Andrew Savage straining to support a load of sand bags, muscular Osten Taylor making a surprising decision that inspired host Jeff Probst to alter his tag line, Sandra Diaz-Twine sneaking around in the bushes, tall blonde Christa Hastie in tears after being accused of throwing away fish, and Jon "Jonny Fairplay" Dalton pulling off a dirty trick and becoming one of the show's great villains. Other memorable contestants included athletic Burton Roberts, sexy mortician Darrah Johnson, and Scoutmaster Lillian Morris. Then when the 10 remaining people in the Drake and Morgan tribes expected a merge, an unprecedented twist prompted one castaway to declare, "Revenge, baby. It's all about revenge." Bonus features consist of commentary on two episodes by the team of Rupert, Sandra, and Christie, and on three episodes by Jon, Ryan Opray ("Ryan O."), Burton, and Andrew; a 29-minute season recap featuring new interviews with a number of contestants; and clips from each person's pre-game interview intercut with in-season footage that either supports or undercuts their plans. --David Horiuchi

All-Stars: A Must Have! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

When I first heard that they were going to do an All-Star version of Survivor, I was ecstatic. Just the thought of seeing previous players from different season play against each other was a dream come true for me.

(May contain SPOILERS!)

Nothing stopped me from reading spoilers from the infamous ChillOne before the show began airing. I wanted to know a little information before the season started. Yet when the show aired, my excitement did not wane. I tuned obediently to every episode. I was very active on message board(s) for the show. I played the Ancient Voices theme over and over.

Despite other people's dislike for the outcome as each episode progressed, my opinion did not change. I was a fan of AMBER when she was in AUSTRALIA. To see her get far and do well in the game was amazing. I always felt she was underestimated; and it helped her in the game as she was not viewed as a threat.

BOSTON ROB was one of the characters I did not like in MARQUESAS. But I will admit that he impressed me with his (more) aggressive strategy for ALL-STARS. Arguably, he played like what the other ALL-STAR SURVIVOR should've played like.

This season had it all: challenges that exhausted the contestants, amazing rewards (two cars), backstabbing, tribal swap, fights (e.g., Rob Vs. Lex, Jerri Vs. Rupert), dramatic exit (Jenna Morasca), unusual quit (Sue), name-callings, tears, a very emotional final tribal council, a very angry jury, a very tense reunion, and the very first Survivor romance.

This DVD boxed set was ordered here from Amazon and sent to me by a friend. It's very nice to rewatch the episodes in clear quality. I still get excited just by watching the first episode alone (one of the best in Survivor history) even if I have seen it so many times before.

There are cast commentaries for more than 5 episodes. The first group of commentators led by Rob Cesternino are good. The bonus footage are really great as well. The set has extra footage for the challenges, casting, post-show interviews, and even clips that were not aired on TV.

The recap episode that aired on TV is not present here. But the favorite clip from that episode in which Chapera mocked Saboga's first tribal council is included in longer form as a bonus feature.

It's a must-own DVD. Many people have cited All-Stars as one of the truly great seasons before the show arguably became a parody of itself. It's a great season that will leave you with lots of memories.

Considered by many fans to be the best season ever, Survivor: The Australian Outback - The Complete Second Season is being released April 26, 2005. This brief review of the season is ok, but the season set is definitely the better buy. The season set is six discs, one of them being this disc. DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU ARE BUYING THE SEASON SET.

Having enjoyed the whole first season of Survivor (it's not for sale in Australia. Had to buy it from here!), I would love to see the same done for ALL the Survivors starting with Survivor Australia. I missed a lot of that series, and although this dvd is entertaining, after having a taste of the FULL 1st season with everything including the full shows, interviews, behind the scenes etc - I WANT MORE! Bring out the same for Survivor Australia as you did for the first Survivor! I imagine there is an audience, so definately worth doing for all the Survivor seasons.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Don't make me grovel... it's embarrassing!

Editorial Review:

America has spoken. Survivor was one of the rare lightning-in-a-bottle television events that became an instant pop culture phenomenon, like Roots, the first season of Twin Peaks, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, and Suddenly Susan (just kidding). Sixteen contestants were left to fend for themselves on the most famous tropical isle since Gilligan's. What begins as a happy and healthy competition inexorably turns, in contestant Jenna's words, "malicious and evil." And the whole world was watching.

For devotees of the show who yearn to go back to the island, this two-and-a-half-hour video souvenir replays the most memorable moments of season 1, including all the tribal councils that sealed the castaways' fates. What makes this video collectible are the never-before-broadcast audition tapes (Susan's is a jaw-dropping hoot), as well as each castaway's parting words after being voted off the island (Stacey is particularly bitter). There is gratuitous rodent skinning, uncensored profanity (from Susan and B.B.), and nudity (unfortunately, all Richard). Thankfully, we are spared Sonja's ukulele playing.

The one mystery that remains is why the castaways didn't pull a Lord of the Flies on hokey host Jeff Probst. Even those who originally avoided the show like a rat dinner will have to admit: from Jenna's heartbreak at learning that her video greeting from home did not arrive to Susan's classic what-goes-around-comes-around "snakes and rats" speech, Survivor is compelling television. --Donald Liebenson
