The Shield season VI 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Season VI is every bit the action, excitement, drama......as seasons I-V. We watched it until 4am without realizing how much time had passed (we are normally early birds!!) We do not have the patience for the week to week suspense and enjoy watching the whole season, commercial free. Anticipating season VII on DVD.....unfortunately this will be the final season :-(

As good as ever 4 out of 5 stars.

I have watched most of season 6 and find it just as entertaining as the other 5 seasons. I recommend it.

Gritty Police Action 5 out of 5 stars.

You must watch this brilliant police drama based in suburban LA. Brilliant acting in particular by the strike team. A must!

I PURCHASED ALMOST NEW EDITIONS OF THE SHIELD SEASONS 2, 4 AND 6. THEY WERE ALL IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. SOMEONE WOULD HAVE TO BE BRAIN DEAD TO PAY FULL PRICE FOR THESE VIDEOS. THEY WERE MAILED EVERYONE VERY PROMPT. THEY ARRIVED IN THEIR ORIGINAL PACKAGING. AND BEST OF ALL I PAID HALF PRICE.

Sad to see its final season coming :( 5 out of 5 stars.

I personally love this show and a big time fan of M Chiklis. Another great season and many breath-taking moments. I was little annoyed with the character which was played by Forest Whittaker but MC took care of him as he always does!

I cant wait to see what will happen between MC and Shane!

Very much looking forward to the final season of the show.

Excellent Series. 5 out of 5 stars.

Damn fine television. Not appropriate for young ones obviously. They have done a great job painting in shades of grey for this entire series.

Behind The Sheild 5 out of 5 stars.

When I recieved this package, I was a little nervous as to how it would play on my machine. I have a region 2 machine and The Sheild 5th Season I bought is on region 1. Naturally, the DVD did NOT play on my machine (although some region 1 DVDs HAVE). Thus, I have been watching this series on computer screens!! Why we cannot get ALL the info from this package on the English version is a mystery to me. Why is one episode cut shorter on the English version than the American edition? Why are there not more complants put to the company responsible about this? There NEEDS to be a solid explanation! Needless to say, this is a fantastic show that keeps the rawness of the past episodes. The commentries and tributes are good too. It always seems to me that Vic cannot be on the straight and narrow, even if he tries to. Something from his previous form will always come back to haunt him.
Great show, but will the company involved STOP SHORT-CHANGING the fans in the UK. Give us ALL the information please.

Widescreen 3 out of 5 stars.
9 of 14 people found this review helpful.

To be clear, this is the DVD set of Season 1 re-released in 2008:

I broke down & bought the new Sony release of Season 1. Here are my nitpicks about the differences with the original release:

The new set is in widescreen, which is a night & day difference from the old set on my HDTV.... The "Previously on The Shield" segments absent on the original Season 1 set are here. But, the 1st chapter stop is after the opening credits, not the recap. What a bunch of duki! Also, there are no chapter selection menus. All the original extras are here, minus the original script of the Pilot. The credits all replace the Columbia-Tristar logo with the Sony logo....

The menus use the same design as the original R1 set. The cover is also the same, without the gold reflective effect the original had.

Overall, the technical presentation is much better on this set. Plus, since they're a slim cased set, getting these Seasons will save me space on my shelf....

I thought The Shield season 2 was a very good season and especially how it ended. One very intresting thing that happend during the end of this season was Vic and his strike robbing a money train that contained millions. To find out why this occured, buy this season and discover other shocking happenings. You will not regret buying this season.

After I watched Season 1 I thought that maybe I shouldn't buy Season 2. There is no way Season 2 could top the first season. Well it did. Season 2 is great! A must buy for a fan of the Shield!

Editorial Review:

On March 12, 2002, The Shield burst onto the FX network like an incendiary grenade, and basic cable TV would never be the same. Creator Shawn Ryan's uncompromising police drama pushed the limits of basic-cable permissiveness, bridging the relative discretion of NYPD Blue and the HBO liberties of The Wire. Without exception, these 13 episodes justify their hype, focusing on pugnacious detective Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis), whose amoral Strike Team employs dubious tactics in the crime-ridden (and fictional) Farmington district of Los Angeles. Mackey and his maverick partners are at odds with seasoned detectives and beat cops, escalating tensions with precinct Capt. Aceveda (Benito Martinez), a Latino with flexible scruples and a political agenda.

The series invites viewers to form their own judgments regarding Mackey's volatile behavior, which includes killing an undercover cop in the electrifying pilot episode. While each episode stands alone as groundbreaking drama, the arc of the series incorporates Aceveda's campaign to end Mackey's career; the self-loathing of a homosexual rookie (Michael Jace) whose partner (Catherine Dent) is Mackey's occasional mistress; a straight-laced detective (Jay Karnes) yearning for respect; Mackey's compassionate attempt to rehabilitate a crack whore (Jamie Brown, giving the season's finest guest performance); the autism of Mackey's young son and the recklessness of his closest partner (Walton Goggins); and the vigilant stoicism of Det. Wyms (CCH Pounder), who's as sensibly upright as Mackey is corrupted.

Teeming with gang-bangers, perverts, rapists, and killers, The Shield is unabashedly adult; even liberal viewers may flinch at plots involving child pornography and serial murder. Chiklis deservedly won an Emmy for maintaining the series' delicate morality; Mackey's a hero squirming in his own ethical quicksand. This daring edginess makes The Shield unique, and generous DVD supplements explore Ryan's creative impulse. Two featurettes offer behind-the-scenes overviews, while the all-episode commentaries allow extensive insight from every member of the series' principal cast and crew. Audition tapes prove that the cast was primed for ensemble excellence, and deleted scenes further demonstrate the series' challenging ambiguity. The Shield is excellent TV for those who can grasp its complexities; all others beware. --Jeff Shannon

Editorial Review:

With the addition of Glenn Close to its already excellent cast, The Shield entered its fourth season with tensions high and tempers flaring. Aceveda (Benito Martinez) has gained political clout on the City Council, and former Farmington district officer Monica Rawling (Close) is introduced as the new Captain of "the Barn," where she immediately confronts a maelstrom of personal and professional turmoil. His strike team now splintered, Mackey (Michael Chiklis) has returned to routine detective duty, while Shane (Walton Goggins) and new partner "Army" Renta (Michael Peña) are neck-deep in trouble with Farmington's "untouchable" drug-lord, Antwon Mitchell, a new villain played to perfection by actor/comedian Anthony Anderson. This seemingly traitorous predicament places Shane at further odds with former strike-teammates Mackie, Lemon (Kenneth Johnson) and Ronnie (David Rees Snell), and while Wyms (CCH Pounder) resents Rawling's promotion, the "Dutch" (Jay Karnes) makes a selfish backroom deal that causes further friction with Wyms and Mackey. Tensions are intensified by Rawling's aggressive seizure of homes and property paid for with drug money -- an effective campaign that forces "Danny" (Catherine Dent) and Julien (Michael Jace) and the entire police force to take sides in a hotly divisive civil rights debate that culminates in the murder of two Farmington cops.

Although some critics felt Close was too refined for a series as gritty as The Shield, she quickly found her place in the show's tight ensemble, earning an Emmy nomination (along with Pounder) and giving Mackey a formidable boss who earns his respect. And while Aceveda wrestles with psychosexual demons resulting from his humiliation in season 3, the high-stakes threat of Antwon Mitchell embroils the Barn in a cauldron of mistrust and political upheaval. More than any previous season, this 13-episode story arc is character-based and internally driven by clashing agendas. Sub-plots run the gamut of neighborhood killings and gang-banger conflict, but as always The Shield also finds room for plenty of mordant wit and tension-relieving sarcasm. Like all previous Shield DVDs, this four-disc set includes informative episode commentaries from the entire cast (including Close) engaged in revealing discussions of their creative process with creator Shawn Ryan and several primary writers and directors. Best of all, the "Under the Skin" documentary is a way-above-average, 60-minute survey of The Shield's day-to-day production, offering plenty of behind-the-scenes footage and eloquent insight about the challenge of maintaining high-quality drama during a fast-paced guerilla production schedule. It's essential viewing for Shield fans and anyone considering a career in television. --Jeff Shannon

More gritty cop action! 4 out of 5 stars.

In the continuing saga that is "The Shield", this is yet another great season with plenty of action. As far as additional content, I am deducting 1 star for the "minisodes". There are a TOTAL waste of space and have nothing to do with The Shield. Drop them!

Lull Between Seasons Two and Four 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Season two was superb, and season four picks the pace back up, but season three by comparison just wasn't that great.

Don't get me wrong, it's still the Shield, and it's still great by any other standards, but by its own high benchmark it couldn't score any higher than a 3.

The non-stop adrenaline rush that the Shield should be is hindered by the unwanted politics of certain subplots that take too long to work out. C'mon, this is the shield, it should have happened five minutes ago, with an explosion, cut to the chase already. Too many tails here but not enough stings.

Twas a bad idea to have Mackey's hands tied by red-tape and commitments for half the season, and things in general suffer because of it.

Maybe they were just setting us up for season 4? Season 4 gets back to where the Shield should be, but really you know season 4 means little without watching season 5.

I'd argue that season 2 is the best stand-alone season.

Season 3 - still entertaining and a necessary watch for Shield fans, but a definite drag in the proceedings.

Fox The Shield (Season 2) - DVD
Shawn Ryan, a regular writer for "Angel" and other programs, created this crime drama to challenge the mores of televised entertainment and to provide a heightened reality with increasingly complicated moral questions.
