It pains me to trash this show on Amazon, because seasons 1,2, and 5 are truly great. This season feels like a made for basic cable action show that would air every Sunday at 2 AM. Every plot device, formula, etc., is recycled here from the other seasons, almost to the point where they feel literally cut and pasted.

Editorial Review:

It s 20 months after the end of season 5 and Jack is back. A series of suicide bombings across the United States has CTU pushed to their limits and the only way to stop the attacks will be to sacrifice their star agent. But are they being misled and can Jack uncover the real mastermind before the bombings begin? Of course it s going to take more than weapons to stop Bauer from uncovering the truth but what he finds it just the beginning of a much larger conspiracy involving nation states the U.S. government and a host of other factors that make this season of 24 the most exciting to date.System Requirements:Running Time: 1012 mins.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS Rating: NR UPC: 024543462927 Manufacturer No: 2246292

Pretty solid stuff 4 out of 5 stars.

While I had kind of given up on 24, this is a good return to form for the series. It starts with the assasination of previous president Palmer and as the season advances we see how Jack, who has come back from the dead for many, is confronted with a group of russian separatists who have gotten some nerve gas. The way the story unfolds gets slightly too straightforward from the middle of the season on but it is still quite exciting stuff. Kim comes back for a short period also.

24 Wasted Hours 2 out of 5 stars.

I love the genre, and the production values are always well done, but this season of 24 is a waste of time. It's hard to blame the creators as they do fine with what they have, but the very nature of a one-day serial is fatally flawed. Jack Bauer, and the disaster(s) he alone can stop, must NEVER be resolved until the final (24th.) hour. Every trick in the book is used to prolong the story, and to keep Jack alive. This leads to LUDICROUS plot devices, which make watching it often painful. If this doesn't matter to you, then I'm sure you will enjoy it, but if a plot or story needs to make sense to be pleasurable, this season will drive you mad. Obviously, a LOT of care, talent, and clever ideas went into making this, but at the end of the day, I knew that I had thrown away a entire day, watching smoke and mirrors signifying nothing.

One of my favorite seasons of 24 5 out of 5 stars.

This has to be one of my favorite seasons of 24. It is a toss up because later seasons like 4 had more action and some better bad guys but this one was great. The twists were incredible, I can actually watch this season over again because it was that good. The very last scene was great, really showed the toll everything takes on Jack. Keifer Sutherland does a great job as Jack Bauer. The Salazars were great, all of CTU. I'd love to do a better review but I don't want to give anything away, its so much better not knowing what to expect. It was easy to get addicted to this show.

24: Guilty Pleasure.. I never tell anone that I watch this Series. 3 out of 5 stars.

This Series is pure FANTASY. In order to watch it, you have to actively suspend your disbelief. If you can't, you will not be able to watch it. Each Season asks you to be increasingly Dumb and Dumber...but it is still somewhat entertaining (often laughable). Nothing really changes with each Season of this Series. Super Man Jack Bauer...an indestructible SuperHero with unlimited Super Powers: never gets hurt, travels at the speed of light, can hit any target with a pistol, is the most intelligent person ever created... etc. Only Jack Bauer, singlehandedly, can save the World! All the Villains are intensely Evil. If you like watching Bad Guys..specifically, Terrorist Moslems getting killed you will love this Series.. and that is a big plus. The Villains also has Superhero Powers and intelligence... The actress who plays Agent Michelle Gessler is the worse Actress that has ever appeared in the history of TV. She makes all these weird faces in an attempt to portay seriousness... it just makes her look mentally deranged. The actor who plays Tony Almeda is almost as Bad. They both reappear in Season 4, at about the same time...I am sure you will be disgusted with these two. It is INSULTING to the VIEWER that after Season 3, Tony Almeda again joins CTU to save the World. After watching Four Seasons, I recommend you watch each Season as fast as you can. Otherwise, any person with average intelligence will lose interest...if you have time to think about the Plot you wil realize that "24" is really just a TV Comic Book: Superhero against SuperVillain... it is Fantasy with a big dose of Violence...and that's what the viewing public seems to want. The Best Way to decide if ay Season of 24, an Audio/Visual Media Creation, is Good is the ability to watch it over again...and still find it to be enjoyable. For example: You can listen to your Favorite CD or watch your Favorite Movie many times. However, using this criteria, each season of 24 is just Contrived Crap, there is no way you would want to watch it any Season again.

I am sorry but only an idiot gives this season 5 stars... 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Let me state for the record:

Seasons 1 and 3 are deserving of five stars, this is barely deserving the one star minimum.

This season introduces new plot threads but drags them through the mud for a few episodes and moves to the next without bothering to tie up the loose ends. Many new characters are simply uninteresting and deserve less screen time than they recieve. Plus, how many seasons are going to feature Arab terrorists trying to nuke the US....I guess this is an easy plot for the average American to swallow, but lets try for some originality please.

Plus, can we pick a plot thread and stick to it?

Guess how many episodes there are? 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The 24 collection is a worthy hobby and is certainly growing to be one of largest of the television series DVD anthologies. There are currently six seasons and season seven is planned for 2009. Each season has 6 discs, with 4 episodes per disc. Each episode covers approximately 1 hour of real-time drama although there are breaks for television advertising time meaning each episode lasts for about 45 min. To date there is approximately 6 days worth of 24 viewing. Each season is the kind of item that requires 1 hour a day of your time for the next 24 days. It has won Emmy and Golden Globe awards. It has already achieved some of highest viewer rates for any television show.

The real-time nature makes it unique along with its split screen type editing where more than one scene can take place at a time. There is also the clock with its ominous digital ticking that seems more like a countdown even though it is moving forward in time.

The discs are held in a cardboard and plastic flip holder. It slides into the slim line box. It is not that easy to remove but this increases the security of the discs. The sound is in 5:1 Dolby Digital and the show is shot in 1.78 : 1.

24 season 1 is mostly about Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) head of CTU (counter-terrorist unit) who suddenly discovers he is made part of an undercover plot to assassinate Presidential candidate Senator David Palmer (Dennis Haysbert). Soon his wife and daughter are caught up in the events. Each episode becomes an edge of your seat thriller with lots of plot twists and character turns.

Overall the show has very high production values although this was one of the early DVD TV releases and so the transfer quality is similar to the birth of DVD. Sometimes the widescreen bars produce fluffy edges. However, overall these minor glitches are forgivable because the story is so captivating although at times the suspension of disbelief is sometimes stretched to the maximum (how many times can someone get kidnapped in one day?). Still you would be hard pressed not to want to see it because overall it is a non-stop rush of action and suspense. Give it a go and see if you want to enjoy some more. The 24 fever is well worth it.

Overall enjoyment of the movie is good and Season one of 24 is probably one of my favorite among all seasons. However, absence of Dolbi Digital or DTS is a big let down, espeacially for a "special edition" like this. This is the main reason why I could only offer 3 star.

Biggest Fan 5 out of 5 stars.

I have watched "24" since day one. I have never ever missed an episode. I also have bought every episode on DVD. I own all of them. I believe that if you have never watched "24" then start with season one (Day one) and you will be hooked as I am. The special edition Season One is fantastic so if your a fan, I recommend it.

Best 24 5 out of 5 stars.
13 of 13 people found this review helpful.

Season 3 of 24 focuses on a threat of a virus being released into the city of Los Angeles as well as other major population centers. As usual, Jack Bauer is on the scene to stop the bad guys. Because so much of the entertainment value of the show comes from the twists and turns of the plot, I won't reveal many of the specifics but there two major story arcs that should be familiar to those who have watched the first two seasons. First, there is Jack and the other CTU agents who are racing against time to stop the terrorists from releasing the virus. Then there is President David Palmer and his administration that are fighting various potential scandals at the same time they deal with the virus.

The first thing that a viewer notices about this season is that the pace starts off a bit more slowly. It's not dull by any means, but it is definitely less frenetic out of the starting gate. The good part of this is that the writers have also eliminated the flaws that were evident in the last third of the first two seasons. This season is the first that felt like the story had been thought through to the very end with solid pacing throughout leading to a good climax in the last episode. I found this a welcome change from earlier seasons where it seemed that all the good ideas were used up early and increasingly preposterous ideas ruined the story at the time when it should have been building to the big finale.

Jack's character is generally much more under control than we have seen previously. He is still willing to go further than most men would, but he no longer seems to be driven by constant rage or a death wish. I found this change a welcome one. Kim Bauer is also improved as the amount of time she spends as a prisoner/hostage is radically reduced and she even proves useful at times in her new role as a CTU computer analyst. The performances of the villains were quite good, especially Joaquim de Almeida as Ramon Salazar. He brings a combination of charm and ruthlessness that is just right to make him a bad guy you love to hate.

The biggest low point of the season was the soap opera swirling around David Palmer's presidency. This is a man who was shown to be very principled in the first season, but since then he has consistently done the wrong or immoral thing any time he's been faced with a tough choice. His judgment is so consistently poor that I found myself no longer pulling for him and hoping that he would be brought down by the scandal of his own actions. It's a shame, because Dennis Haysbert has terrific presence and the writers did not need to insert all this cheap melodrama into the story.

I've only watched the first three seasons so far, but this is clearly the best one to date. The story holds together much better from beginning to end, and a lot of the worst plot contrivances that plagued the first two seasons have been done away with. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a thrill ride television series. There are many twists and turns and it makes for quite a breathtaking experience.

Should have ended at hour 16 3 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Season 2 follows Jack Bauer as he tries to stop a nuclear bomb from exploding in the city of Los Angeles in addition to preventing a war of retaliation springing from that same event. Most of the cast from the first season is back including the now-President David Palmer and his ex-wife Sherry. Jack's daughter Kim and the crew from CTU including villain Nina Meyers all are present and accounted for. I won't reveal much of the story specifics because too much of the enjoyment of 24 revolves around the unexpected twists and turns of the plot. Suffice it to say, that the viewer is kept guessing about much of what is going on and Jack is put through a very bad day indeed.

As with 24 - Season One, there are some real highs and lows here. Jack himself is great and the show is at its best when we watch him do what he does best. President Palmer, played by Dennis Haysbert, has great presence and is always compelling to watch. The struggle to find the nuke and stop it from killing millions of people is riveting and provided for some very exciting moments. Unfortunately, that story is resolved in episode 16 along with virtually every other plot thread and then the show tries to start a whole new series of stories revolving around a war to retaliate against three countries that may have been involved in the plot to nuke LA. The season really loses steam at this point and almost every aspect feels extremely contrived and unrealistic. Instead of building to a great climax, it wheezes across the finish line like an out of shape marathon runner. I know it wouldn't have the same marketing pizzazz but they honestly should have named this season "16" and finished after 16 hours. It would have made for a far stronger product.

The worst aspect of Season 2 is undoubtedly Kim Bauer and her increasingly unlikely story where she meets and is threatened by what appears to be every psychotic in the greater LA area and even a mountain lion thrown is for good measure. There is no connection whatsoever to the main story, she's just there for Jack to worry about and, apparently, to annoy viewers. One plot that was somewhat interesting was civil unrest and rioting related to the bomb but after several scenes building tension on this point it simply fades away unresolved and forgotten. Other flaws include CTU headquarters apparently having no restrictions to family and friends walking around at will, a phony urgency to retaliate with hours of the nuke or never, and more.

The funny thing about 24 is that you can point out endless flaws that are silly and easily avoidable yet the show's twists and turns largely carry you through them on sheer momentum. Kiefer Sutherland is fantastic in the lead role and also helps viewers ignore most of the worst flaws. Still, there's no question the show would be far less frustrating and more enjoyable if the writers would dig a little deeper and make a more honest effort to provide less contrived situations and an understanding of national security that surpasses that of the average 12 year old. I do recommend this season of 24, but only to those who are willing to accept some frustration with their entertainment.

24 Season Four has Jack facing mid-eastern extremists. The plot is solid (as is the acting) and the action is just plain awesome. As common to 24 however, there are a lot of things that happen that are quite frustrating :p. But really this is a great season of 24 and worth watching whether you are a fan or not.

On a side note, I got my slim pack of Season 4 at a sale at an electonics store, I can't believe the ridiculous price Amazon is asking for these slim packs online.
