The only reason i am reviewing this is because there are some reviews here that are wrongly giving Deep Space Nine a bad time! Voyager is dull and boring and the worst in the Star trek family it had so much potential and failed miserably.
Deep Space Nine is light years ahead and still stands up welll with todays Sci-Fi TV. It is deeper and tells a story it does not simply push a reset button each week and move on.
Voyager will not leave a lasting impression like DS9.

Enjoyed this series on tv, and enjoying it even more now that I can watch it in its entirety. This series did a fine job of character development. I also like the occasional references to the previous series Deep Space Nine. Many of the special features are excellent as well, describing the technology of the time (some of it surprisingly simple), and how ideas for the show had some roots in real science. A quality viewing experience...

This was exactly what my daughter tried to purchase at the store at the mall for some outrageous price. I told her let's try Amazon and she saved a bundle as a result. I think it was less than half of the price at the mall.

I never saw the end, and instead of searching the television guides, I bought the last season on DVD. The interface is a bit funny, but excellent quality video and sound. I am enjoying it a lot!

Star Trek Voyager, in my opinion, is the best Star Trek series. I fell in love with the show about a year ago, when I finally decided to explore the Star Trek phenomenon. I was checking all channels to see when Star Trek was coming on, and Voyager was the first one I saw. I set my Tivo, and that night, I couldn't beleive what I saw. By coincidence, Spike TV was beggining the cycle again that day, and I started with Caretaker. I watched every single episode since then. A few months later, Spike's three episodes per day schedule had reached season seven. I first knew that season seven was going to be good after "Imperfection," which was the SECOND episode of the season. Actually, first if you don't count Unimatrix Zero Pt 2. That feeling of greatness returned the next day when I watched Drive. That episode told me, "This will be the greatest season so far." I was right. Skipping ahead to Q2, Q's third and final appearance on Voyager. That was when the writing REALLY got good. Heck, they even made an episode ABOUT writing in Author, Author! Every episode past Human Error is a classic, definetly. Endgame is my favorite episode in ALL of Star Trek, not just Voyager. The brilliant writing, magnificent acting, and amazing special effects end my favorite Star Trek series with a bang!

Another strong season for VOYAGER 4 out of 5 stars.

STAR TREK: VOYAGER is an unusual show in that its worst seasons were the earliest. Virtually all shows ever made were better in their first half than in the second half, but VOYAGER is one of the few exceptions. There are two reasons for the dramatic improvement in the show over its final four seasons. First, an increasing amount of serial content. No doubt part of this was the result of a growing number of other shows on at the same time with serial formats. Whatever the cause, as more and more elements carried over from one episode to later episodes, the more interesting the series became. The second reason for the improvement in the show was the emergence of Seven of Nine as the show's most compelling character. Very shortly after her introduction at the start of Season Four, Jeri Ryan's Seven of Nine became by far the most crucial character in most of the best episodes. VOYAGER did not, in fact, feel at all like the same show after Seven's appearance on the series. And as with the other three seasons featuring Seven, most of the best episodes on the show were Seven-centric.
Still, Season Five did not have as many truly excellent episodes as Season Four. On the other hand, it did not have nearly as man weak episodes as Seasons One through Three and Season Six. The two-part "Dark Frontier" is one of the exceptions, providing two of the most exciting episodes in the entire run of VOYAGER (again, a pair of episodes focused on Seven of Nine, as she temporarily returns to the Borg, learning that perhaps her having become a member of the crew of Voyager was part of a Borg plan). Still, the main virtue of Season Five is its persistent excellence, rather than its flashes of greatness.
There are some fun guest appearances in Season Five. Jason Alexander made one of his first post-SEINFELD appearances in the late season episode "Think Tank" (yet another Seven of Nine episode). John Savage appears in the end of the season episode "Equinox" (the second half of which would start Season Six). I did have a remarkable experience over a two-day period during which I encountered character actor Mark Harelik in three different shows. I rewatched an episode of the great, great series PUSHING DAISIES entitled "Bitches," in which the owner of a string of puppy stores, played by Harelik, attempts to clone the world's most perfect dog ("man's best, best friend"). Then I saw him on VOYAGER in "Counterpoint," one of the best episodes of Season Five, as Devore Inspector Kashyk. His role is one of the finest guest appearances in all of VOYAGER, as he plays a Devore officer who may or may not be attempting to defect from his people and who may or may not be trying to help Voyager. He and Janeway were really great together. Finally, I watched the second episode of the new series ELI STONE, and Harelik appeared as a defense attorney. For a brief period of time he seemed to be everywhere I looked.
All in all, a good season. But I agree with all those who think Paramount has priced these sets outrageously high. I own a very large number of shows on DVD, but not a single box set of any Star Trek series. Instead, I rely on Netflix. I strongly encourage everyone to refuse to purchase these sets at their current pricing level. Current technology makes the production of these sets extremely cheap, far cheaper than it cost to make old VHS tapes. And with little or no fees to be paid for use of music (something that represents a real expense for shows like NORTHERN EXPOSURE or SMALLVILLE) there is little in the way of overhead. There is a word for what Paramount is doing with the Star Trek DVDs and that word is "gouging." They are gouging fans of the show by forcing people to pay extravagant prices. There is simply no excuse for any box set to cost more than around $42 after discount. I can understand a show like ALLY MCBEAL costing more (if it ever makes it onto DVD) because of the licensing fees for its heavy use of music, but not a show like VOYAGER. The most I can say is that they have lowered the price somewhat. But it is still way, way too expensive. The sad part is that if they dropped the cost of the show, they would almost certainly make more money by greatly increased sales.

What can one say about ST:Voyager? It ran with top notch special effects and a well-selected cast. Though a great fan of DS9, ST:Voyager had a compelling storyline with a twist, a female captain, Katherine Janeway . This concept broke the old Star Trek mold by proving that a woman can be as "cowboy" as Jim Kirk, as "eloquent" as Jean-Luc Picard, and as "unyielding" as Benjamin Sisco. Season One lands the crew of the Intrepid-Class explorer Starship in the depths of the Delta Quadrant after an encounter with a space anomaly while chasing down the Maquis. This season is mostly about the integration and initial difficulties that a ship built for only 6 month deployments has to face over 75 years from home. Considering the lack of decent TV these days, I recommend that Sci-Fi and Drama fans grab ST:Voyager and set sail for the unknown.

I followed this series on Television, but not too closely. Needless to say i found some of this series I had not ever seen. So far. I am throughly excited about the series and the character "Captain Katherine Janeway."

The third season of Star Trek: Voyager follows the crew of the USS Voyager on their continuing quest towards home. The season begins with the conclusion to the 2nd season finale Basics, featuring the Kazon. There is a a mid-season jaunt to late 20th century Earth and many other adventures along the way, including involvement in a civil war in the Q continuum. Other familiar aliens include the Vidiians, the Ferengi, . . . and the Borg. Good season with some interesting episodes and ideas to consider.

If you have made it this far into this series let alone into the franchise you will understand every season has its exceptional episodes and its lackluster episodes and this one is no different. I have actually found episodes I have never seen and I thought that was impossible. I am no trekkie but as an engineer I love this series and have all of ST the next generation and am working to get all of ST DS9 and ST voyager. So as I am watching ST voyager season 4 now I can say season 3's place in the foundation of Star trek lore is solid.

There is so much of consequence that happened during this year of Star Trek Voyager that....I do not entirely know when to start. Season 4 marked a very pronounced change for the show:probably the most extreme directional shift in the entire Star Trek cannon.Several major things contributed to this.For one the conclusion of the 'Scorpion' cliffhanger meant two things:that the Borg would play a far bigger role in the series from this point on,and that it served to introduce the Seven Of Nine character-a crucial element (depending on who you believe) in the shows renewed success. Another contribution to the change in Voyager this season is some major resolution in many of the characters:Tuvok got promoted,Tom Paris And B'lanna Torres finaly consumed a long jestating relationship and Janeway began altering her hairstyle. Not only that but the focus of the series in general became more fast paced and more outward focused then the emphasis on "bottle" episodes in the first few seasons of the show. This season is some to many of the best episodes of the series:"Revulsion" deals with the Norman Bates of holograms and "Year Of Hell" may very well be one of the most broad time based stories Star Trek ever did. Many of the episodes this season dealt with Trek's sense of social commentary Star Trek did so well:"Random Thoughts" deals with literal thought police and the "forbidan fruit" syndrome legality can create,"Scientific Method" showcases the idea of unethical medical practices,"Mortal Coil" with loss of faith,"Retrospect" deals in an undercut way with the issue of rape while "Living Witness" (one of my favorites of the season) deals with the all important issue of revisionist history.Many episodes such as "One","Prey","The Raven" and the wonderful "The Omega Directive" deal with the development of the Seven of Nine Character herself-the latter dealing with "the Borg holy grail":omega. "Message In A Bottle","Vis A Vis" and "Hope And Fear" deal loosely with another issue this season bought up:Voyager making more headway in their journey to Earth. "The Gift" is an episode which brings to mind the main controversial element of this season:the departure of Jennifer Lien as Kes. Even after watching the bonus features on this and hearing all varrieties of gossip and such I still have no idea why the Kes character was so abruptly and unceremoniously removed from the show.That is beyond the fact the writers insisted the Kes character "wasn't working out". It only leaves me,along with many others to speculate. All I know is mums the word with the cast and crew of the show. I'd love to know because while I appreciate Seven Of Nine and think she contributed to Star Trek a lot in general I don't see how the character of Kes "could'nt be salavaged" and wished she could've remained.Despite that this is a strong season and signaled a new beginning for Voyager.

A bit of a fade after the previous two strong seasons 3 out of 5 stars.

All in all I found Season Six to be a disappointment following the previous two excellent seasons. On the upside they continued to infuse the show with serial elements. On the downside there were simply too many flat or uninteresting episodes. In general, the problem with the season is that the writing lost some of its edge.
For fans of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, this season is interesting for the very, very brief involvement in the show by Ron Moore, who is created with having written the first two stories of the season. Moore was, of course, a wunderkind who had joined ST:TNG at an absurdly young age and quickly became one of the most important writers on ST:TNG and ST:DS9. He also wrote the script for two of the ST movies (GENERATIONS and FIRST CONTACT), so his joining VOYAGER as one of the show's primary muses made sense. But Moore's vision conflicted with those already entrenched. For instance, he was bothered by the endless number of shuttles and felt that in a long journey across space Voyager should show more wear and tear and shortages of materiel, including shuttles. So after only two episodes he dropped out of the show. His next significant gig would be on ROSWELL (which had some major tie ins with the STAR TREK franchise, with Jonathan Frakes as one of the executive producers) and after that CARNIVALE. In his next project after CARNIVALE he would get his wish to depict a starship struggling with ongoing deprivation in BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, which in many ways could be construed as the anti-VOYAGER. Almost everything in BSG is the opposite of VOYAGER. It features projectile weapons instead of beam weapons. There are no "shields" and therefore you'll never hear Gaeta or Tigh or Helo say something along the lines of "Shields down to 64%." It has no aliens nor even different versions of humanoid species (leaving aside the Cylons). The political decisions are not idealistic (though arguably a far more politically liberal show than Voyager) but more akin to real politik, with expediency often trumping ideals or prime directives. Leaders are vastly more fallible on BSG than on VOYAGER. And BSG never, ever engages in the technobable that dominates every episode of VOYAGER. On almost every point, the two shows are opposites. You can tell this simply by looking at the ships, Voyager always pretty and pristine and Galactica looking worse for wear in every episode.
While increasingly unhappy with aspects of VOYAGER, there was still much in Season Six that I still found to enjoy. The Doctor became a more and more important character on the show. He, along with Seven of Nine, was my favorite character on the series. Although I often complain about many aspects of the ST franchise, the one area they often excelled at was developing characters that did extraordinary jobs of helping astute viewers explores issues surrounding what can count for personhood. The series clearly aligns itself with writers like Ray Kurzweil who believe in the almost limitless capacity for computers to gain something akin to geniune intelligence. At this point in the run of the series I generally found that two-thirds of the episodes that I enjoyed focused either on the Doctor or on Seven.
Again, not as good a season as the previous two, but still much better than the first three seasons of the show, which simply were not very interesting and generally failed to approach any potential the show had. Not great, but definitely worth watching for fans of previous seasons.

Star Trek was entering it's 30'th anniversary when Star Trek Voyager began it's sophmore season so there was a great deal of hoopla surrounding this season. In terms of the show the feeling was different.Unlike in the first season where the crew of Voyager were dealing with all their new challanges,this season found them truly facing the unknown from another "cartaker" trying to manipulate Kes in "Cold Fire" to Janeway meeting up with her hero Amelia Earheart in 'The 37's'. This also marks the first appearance of Q in this series,on this occasion moderating a fellow Q's wish to commit suicide in the excellent and topical 'Death Wish'. The doctor also found love and Chakotay discovered an ancient riddle of his people in 'Tattoo';many of the episodes in this season had a slightly surreal and mystical bent as everything of familiarity to the Voyager crew started to be questioned. Even in 'Alliances" Janeway cites the Delta Quadrant as a region of space without many rules.This season also works out some kinks in the shows construction;the Kazon were a rather uninteresting and poorly written adversary and came off as little more then a poor man's Klingon. So a series of story arcs come into play during this season in which they made their exit;a trader on the Voyager crew betrays unformation to the equally tretchurous Seska until being foiled by Neelix. Then Seska lies to Chakotay about having his baby (it's actually the Kazon Cullah's) and,in the cliffhanger the Kazon story is concluded after a failed attempt by Seska to commandere the ship. Over time this is probably the Voyager season I've seen the most because of all the type surrounding the anniversary year,also because I think many Star Trek fans were looking for any signs of sophmore slump. Well there really wasn't;just some weaker moments where the kinks of the series were being ironed out. And for sure great things were by now truly on the horizon for this series.

The Borg Fan Collection has the top ten most popular Borg episodes as picked by the fans! Witness all the characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation, Enterprise and Voyager as they defend their ships, galaxies, and their own kind. For thousands of years the Borg have been spreading throughout the galaxy, conquering, assimilating and thus destroying countless civilizations. Following every encounter, the Borg catalogue each new species with a numerical designation instead of a proper name. The goal of the Borg, in most cases, is to completely assimilate each species by incorporating their knowledge and technology into the unified Borg Collective. One by one, each living being is converted into Borg Drones. Well-chosen episodes, but why allow repeats? Where are the Enterprise Episodes? 4 out of 5 stars.

These fan collectives are a brlliant addition to the Trek family of DVDs. Surely only the most rabid and rich fans (rich in money AND in time!) could afford the thousands of dollars required to gather and watch all 5 series of Trek. For those of us unblessed by such qualities, these fan collectives are most welcome. Because Trek fans are among the most knowledgable (and most opinionated!) fans as a group, their populist choices to appear in these groupings of shows will represent the best episodes of each series. It also allows the viewers to see many of the 2-part episodes together without having to buy separate seasons of the shows. The only drawback is that these sets have been left entirely to the audiences' whims, without any overarching control. Thus, "City on the Edge of Forever" is in the Captain's set too; "Endgame" is in the Borg Collective. Finally, I'm disappointed that this set does not include anything from Enterprise: much of the 3rd season involved battle with a species with temporal weapons - were none of these shows more worthy that "Little Green Men"? Or worth putting on instead of "Endgame" that was already on the Borg Collective? I'm also not sure about "Tomorrow is Yesterday" as the second ToS choice - I prefer "All Our Yesterdays" and even "Assignment: Earth" is about the same level.

Tomorrow is Yesterday (ToS) (3.5/5) - a damaged Enterprise accidentally travels to 1960s Earth. In defending themselves, they destroy an airforce fighter and capture its pilot, who has a critical role in history. How can the crew get home and restore the timeline?
City on the Edge of Forever (TOS) (5/5) - McCoy accidentally passes through the Guardian of Forever into 1930s Earth. The timeline is changed and Kirk and Spock must right the timeline. Guest-starring Joan Collins as an idealistic soup-kitchen missionary with whom Kirk falls in love.
Time's Arrow (TNG) (3.5/5) - In its original run, I remember being quite disappointed with this cliffhanger/premier combo. It's certainly not as compelling as "The Best of Both Worlds" or "Redemption". Archaeologists on Earth discover Data's head, which has been buried in a cave for 500 years. In the course of their investigation, they discover time-travelling alien soul-sucking vampires (?!) on Earth at the end of the 19th century.
Cause and Effect (TNG) (5/5) - The precursor to the feature film, "Groundhog Day" - the Enterprise experiences the same day over and over after being stuck in a time-loop following collision with another ship. Features the most compelling "teaser" segment of all Trek shows: the Enterprise is destroyed with all hands before the opening credits!
Yesterday's Enterprise (TNG) (5/5) - during the battle that destroys her, the Enterprise C is thrown into the timeline of the Enterprise D, altering the future so that the Klingons and Federation are at war, Tasha Yar is still alive (and obviously Worf is not a member of the Enterprise D's crew). Only Guinan can sense the original timeline, and she must convince Picard to allow the Enterprise C to return to the battle (and sure destruction) to repair the timeline. This episode is supurb, but sets the stage for the very unfortunate subplot of the half-human/half-Romulan Sela who plagues future Romulan-based episodes.
All Good Things (TNG) (4.5/5) - The series finale of Next Generation. Q teleports Picard between three timelines - the "present" (season 7 of TNG), the past (Encounter at Farpoint, i.e. the beginning of Season 1), and the future, where Admiral Riker is in command of the Enterprise, the Klingons and Federation are no longer allies, and Picard is suffering from an Alzheimer-like disease. Picard is set a puzzle to solve that will save humanity if he succeeds, but destroy the entire race if he fails. A very interesting idea, but the solution is somewhat contrived, and the episode suffers on repeated viewings.
Little Green Men (DS9) (2/5) - the weakest show in the set. Nog, Quark, and Rom become the Roswell aliens after an accident with their warp drive sends them to 1950s Earth.
Trials and Tibbleations (DS9) (5/5) - taking a page from "Forrest Gump", the crew of the Defiant chase a Klingon agent back in time. The agent is trying to kill Kirk for interfering with Klingon plans during the TOS episode "Trouble with Tribbles". One extremely clever and seamless special effect has Kirk questioning Chief O'Brien about his involvement in a fight on the space station.
Year of Hell (Voy) (3.5/5) - a species tries using a time-travelling weapon to wipe out its enemies and make itself all-powerful in its region of space. Unfortunately, its "incursions" in space-time always have unintended consequences. The Voyager is caught in the middle by virtue of its temporal shielding, and attempts to find and destroy the temporal weapon while simultaneously taking on different iterations of the enemy species' conventional warships.
Endgame (Voy) 4/5 - The season finale of Voyager. Admiral Janeway, 30 years in the future, returns to "present time" Voyager with technology and a plan to get the Voyager home 25 years early, thus saving the lives of those she knows will die (or, in Tuvok's case, go insane) before Voyager makes it to Earth in the normal way. The plan involves a risky confrontation with Janeway's old nemesis, the Borg Queen, who is guarding a Borg-controlled wormhole-infested region of space.
As usual, this collective is bare-bones - text commentaries on "Tomorrow is Yesterday", "Yesterday's Enterprise", and "Little Green Men" are the only extras. But for those not wishing to purchase many Trek shows/seasons, this is a great "primer" full of worthy episodes.
