An atrocious ending to a promising series... 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 10 people found this review helpful.

I borrowed the series from a friend before the third season aired and I was hooked. The first season was ok, but the second season caught my imagination with the solid storytelling and great action sequences. I had to wait for a year to finish out the series--and I waited like a true fan waits; impatiently.

But when the series finally finished, I was appalled! What happened to the story plots that had been introduced? The learning that the characters were going through? It had all been sacrificed to two large helpings of deux ex machina. The first 3/4 of the season were filled with needless fluff that didn't further the main plot, and the last five episodes were a rush to get everything sealed up into an ending...

***mild spoilers***

A really bad ending complete with a scene of implied teenage sexuality highly inappropriate for children's cartoon (ep. 316) and the rape of a human mind in the forcible removal of a part of the antagonist (his bending)(ep. 321).

*****

As a mother and a once fan of the series, don't buy the third season. I was all set to flesh out my trilogy, but thankfully I saw the ending of season three before I bought it.

Book 2: Earth, Vol. 1 Avatar the Last Airbender: Book 2 Earth, Volume 1 finds Aang, the Avatar and potential reconciler of a world divided into air, earth, water, and fire kingdoms, now a master Waterbender. That means he and companions Katara and Sokka can now leave the Northern Water Tribe and concentrate on mastering earth. New adventures and dangers await the heroic trio in the five episodes included on this DVD, which finds Aang experiencing nightmares about the power of the Avatar State. He also meets an earth kingdom general with plans for attacking the warrior tribes of the fire nation, gets trapped with possible love interest Katara in the Cave of Two Lovers, and gets pulled into a supernatural swamp by a tornado. As always, Avatar is above average as an engaging anime tale, with a wonderfully original storyline and striking artistry. --Tom Keogh

Book 2: Earth, Vol. 2 The five chapters in Avatar the Last Airbender: Book 2 Earth, Volume 2 continue the story of young avatar Aang's adventures deep within the Earth Kingdom. As usual, each episode is a seamless blend of grave drama and comic relief, but the stakes seem higher than ever with the addition of a new member to Aang's team. Joining Katara and Sokka is Toph, a blind but powerful earthbending girl trying to obscure her aristocratic origins by defeating large, scary men in the ring. Aang recognizes Toph from his vision of an earthbending teacher, whom he needs to help him master control over the earth element. Toph also adds a kind of sardonic, tart tone to Aang's journey, ultimately leaving her world to join the series' trio of young heroes. "The Blind Bandit" finds Aang, Katara, and Sokka working hard at convincing Toph to help their mission. "Zuko Alone" carries on the tale of the firebending prince who now travels alone and anonymously, but comes close to befriending a boy in an Earth Kingdom town. (The episode is full of interesting flashbacks from Zuko's youth.) "The Chase" also concerns Zuko's past, but is primarily about Aang, Katara, and Sokka adjusting to Toph's somewhat self-centered presence on the team at the same time Princess Azula is relentlessly hunting them all down in a kind of speeding tank. "Bitter Work" finds Toph having difficulties training Aang, while "The Library" is an exotic episode about a professor who leads the crew to a library containing information useful against the Fire Nation. When they get there, they find the place guarded by the owl-like Wan Shi Tong, who begins sinking the library in defense against the perceived invaders. --Tom Keogh

Book 2: Earth, Vol. 3 Avatar the Last Airbender: Book 2 Earth, Volume 3 covers chapters 11 through 15 in the ongoing saga of Aang, the 12-year-old reincarnation of an avatar destined to reunite the warring nations of fire, earth, water, and air. Still traveling with his friends Katara, Sokka, and newcomer Toph, Aang gets into some of the strangest and most compelling situations yet seen on his journey to master control over all four elements. The first story, "The Desert," finds Aang so upset over the abduction and criminal sale of his flying bison, Appa, that the powerful boy shows a streak of rage, demonstrating to himself that he could easily use his emerging skills to harm enemies if he wished. Still, Appa remains missing through this volume, leading the gang on a mission to survive a desert sojourn and survive during a perilous flight (with a young family in tow) over a pass through mountains and ocean in "The Serpent's Pass." They also get involved in a bizarre fight (in "The Drill") against the Fire Nation army and its gigantic drill, which is aimed at the outer wall of Ba Sing Se, a city occupied by earth people. Once inside Ba Sing Se, however, things get really weird: smiling officials (in "City of Walls and Secrets") outlaw any discussion of the war outside in order to keep the population placid and the economy rolling. Finally, "Tales of Ba Sing Se" is an original piece made up of individual vignettes focusing on each of the major characters. If there is anything surprising about Book 2 Earth, Volume 3, it's the amount of romance (kissing, even!) in the air. These Avatar boys and girls are growing up. --Tom Keogh

Book 2: Earth, Vol. 4 The long journey of young Avatar Aang and his friends Katara, Sokka, and Toph continues in this dramatic installment in the Avatar the Last Airbender series. Picking up from Volume 3, the first chapter on this disc, "Appa's Lost Days," traces the hard times of Aang's winged bison, Appa, after the latter is stolen in order to blackmail Aang into not going to the Earth King with information about a pending coup. The clever Aang manages to find Appa anyway and complete his crucial mission, though he learns, in "The Earth King," that the sheltered monarch doesn't buy the notion that his own counsel, the power-grasping Long Feng, could be behind such a conspiracy. Complicating matters is the arrival of Princess Azula to take control over forces loyal to Long Feng, while Zuko, the reformed Fire Nation prince now acting as a humble but happier servant to his wise, tea-drinking uncle, is powerless to stop her. (On the other hand, Zuko forms an unexpected bond with one of Aang's allies.) Everything comes to a head in "The Crossroads of Destiny," in which Aang, suddenly confused by the sage advice of a guru who tells him he must free himself of a crucial emotional attachment, joins the others in an uphill effort to stop Azula from overtaking the Earth King. As engaging and frequently funny as every other volume in the Avatar series, Volume Four is a great ride through a climactic time in the long-running story. --Tom Keogh

Look Out Barney here comes Yo Gabba Gabba! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Our grandaughter loves all of these Yo Gabba Gabba's. I guess it is the all the bright colors. She loves to dance. I could say this is her favorite, but she loves to watch all of the Yo Gabba Gabba's the same. She never bores of them.

Who knows would you ever think that a man wearing a 60's orange wig with clothes that look 2 sizes to small would catch the attention of preschooler.

The show teaches children about respect and is very educational. 5 star for this one.

"more gabba pees" 5 out of 5 stars.

I love this show!! When I was flipping through the channels, I stopped because my 18 month old loves music. He started dancing away and hasn't stopped since. He knows all the moves. "Wiggle wiggle wiggle go, wiggle wiggle wiggle go, wiggle wiggle wiggle stop!" I know all of you Yo Gabba Gabba parents are singing along right now! And who would've thought that such a low-tech show would get my 18 month old son AND my 14 YEAR OLD son up together and dancing to "put your arms up, wiggle them around, drop it down, jumping jellyfish!" Such silly songs but great interaction. It gets your kids up and moving, teaches them good morals ("don't throw things at friends"), and allows them to learn to "put the toothpaste on your brush, and that's how you do it!"

Disappointed little girl 3 out of 5 stars.

The main reason my daughter was so excited about this movie was because of the pegasus shown on the front cover. She's so into horses and if they fly or have a horn...even better. Well, guess what...NO Pegasus in this movie! She kept asking where it was and when the movie was ending and still no pegasus...the tears came (she is a dramatic 4 yr old, but I was even disappointed for her). As it turns out, the pegasus is only in the "Special Features" section as a music video which is about 3 minutes long. What a disappointment. As it turns out she still enjoys the movie (it also comes with 2 other episodes: Dora's Jack-In-The-Box and Bark, Bark To Play Park), but I make sure we watch the music video a couple times before I turn it off. She's accepted it now, but still I wish I would have known before her Grandma bought her this movie.

awesome if it worked right 2 out of 5 stars.
2 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I ordered this for my fiance's birthday since it was one of his favorite childhood shows. First, it took over a month to arrive at my house (I had to renew the order so it wouldn't just automatically refund me for taking so long). Then we discovered that it didn't work on 3 out of the 4 dvd players in my house. I returned it hoping it was just a bad set, but it wasn't. The new one we got worked exactly the same. So we can only watch it in one room in our house, and hope that if we want to watch it at someone else's house that it works right. Buying it would be a gamble for whether or not it'll work in your personal dvd player.

I was so happy to see the pop-up on The~N for seasons 1-2. I only got season 1 and am very happy with the CD-R quality. Can't get enough of the Maddison/Ashley feud and the love that starts to blossom between Ashley and Spencer is priceless :-)

Another good Nickelodeon show and Adult friendly. 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I will often watch TV with my daughter. So I do like it when programs are genuinely entertaining and iCarly is actually enjoyable to watch. I find a lot of children programs are very similar. However I think the web show theme gives it an edge and also the regular adult cast makes it more adult friendly and more realistic. I have often watched a kids program and thought "where are their parents". Although this show follows the norm with there being no parents, Carly's responsible adult is a regular presence. The show also makes a point that he is responsible in the episode "I want to stay with Spencer". It was this episode that prompted me to buy the DVD. When it became apparent that UK Nickelodeon had cut the episode (Nickelodeon cut/edited a Nickelodeon program???) . We only knew this because we had discovered the program whilst in America. The DVD is fully uncut and as result makes more sense. It has also proved very popular with my daughters friends. Who watched the whole DVD in one sleepover. I only hope Nickelodeon continue produce shows like this.

If it won't play on my Mac, why should I buy it? 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

First, let me say that I haven't owned a TV in three years. I watch all my TV through an EyeTV device hooked up to my mac. This said, I'm very disturbed by this warning in the product description: "This disc is expected to play back in DVD Video"play only" devices, and may not play in other DVD devices, including recorders and PC drives." Does this mean that I'd be unable to play this back in my Mac? Do I get my money back if my mac cannot play back the disc?

If you own this collection, please post here & let us know if the discs play on your Mac or PC.

The best Blues Clues production! 5 out of 5 stars.

I was having a hard time trying to find episodes with Steve for my 23 month old daughter who is a true Blues Clues fan! So I got this DVD.

This is a fantastic movie which involves the regular problem solving part seen in espisodes and much more. Steve and the gang are putting together a show for the neigborhood and they need to get ready for it. Blue needs a singing partner so we play blue's clues to figure out who it should be. Side Table is too shy to say she wants to sing in the show as well and that part of the story is very well portrayed. There are many practical lessons for kids in this about not giving up, how being shy can prevent you from doing what you really want to do, etc. My favorite part is when Steve is trying to make his song and they explain notes, tempo, etc. Very well done!
