There is really no need for a long review for this TV series. All that you need to know, is buy it. It is the best TV series ever released, and it is the most visceral, emotional, gritty, and realistic representation of the battlefield I have ever seen.

I was extremely happy with my purchase of the Tuskagee Aiman as I hunted high and low and Amazon was the only one that had it ,so you can understand how happy I was when I put it in the DVD player and I got a message saying it would't play. This was unfortunate especially for me and I realise that it isn't your fault. These things happen sometimes when people buy from overseas.but that's the way it goes.I would be most happy to have written a good review but this time I can't.

Great movie, but if you are buying for kids, BE WARNED!! 3 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I am always looking for sports-themed movies for my young son, and he is especially interested in non-fiction movies. ("Miracle" and "Rudy" are two great examples.)
I read the reviews, and thought we'd give this a try. I noticed that this was marked "not rated" and just hoped for the best! Whoops! I am not offended by swearing in the context of baseball. But this has excessive use of the "F" word, which I just wasn't expecting. It was a big surprise and quite disappointing.
I only offer this review for other parents who may be contemplating this movie for kids and younger teens.

61-The best insiders view of the life and times of two of the NY Yankees Best 5 out of 5 stars.

When I first saw this autobiography of Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris stars, it was like being there with them.
Growing up in Brooklyn, NY, and Joe Pepitone (another Yankee local scouted and signed with the Yankees, his brothers Billy and Jimmy were our neighbors. I lived that era and thought I knew everything about every Yankee. This film, I have sought for years and now that I immediately purchased it through Amazon.com, I can tell any fan of baseball that is has all the fun, drama, trials and problems of any normal person that brought tears to my eyes of what went on during and after their professional careers. The class and charachter that more then describes those great players were my idols. But meeting them in person, in the dugout, never, ever gave me anything else but goosebumps.
This film I would highly recommend to any father not knowing these greats to sit with their children for a heart warming and insite not only how to behave and present themselves but a learning lesson of how a sport brought out the finest in them that will last forever.

Editorial Review:

Summer, 1961: Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle are on pace to break the most hallowed record in U.S. sports, Babe Ruth's single-season 60 home runs. It's a big story, and the intense, plain-spoken Maris is the bad guy: sports writers bait him and minimize hi

An Entertaining Tool Applicable To Business. 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This movie, based on a true story, chronicles the sale of RJR Nabisco during an era when Mergers and Acquisitions were at an all time high. James Garner, in a brilliant performance, plays F. Ross Johnson, the CEO of RJR Nabisco who wants to take Nabisco private and be its majority owner.

The movie does a nice job explaining the financial aspects of a LBO(Leveraged Buyout) on such a basic level that anyone can understand. Throughout the film the storyline flows quickly, although at times certain scenes were a little canned and the satire a bit corny.

The backdrop of the movie is loaded with back and forth backstabbing, blatant greed, under the table dealing, and Jonathan Pryce's depiction of Henry Kravis, a Wall Street mover and shaker and corporate raider is outstanding.

Of course by no means this work supersedes the book, but nevertheless you may find the effort quite entertaining.

Over all, I really enjoyed this movie.

Follows Historical Details 4 out of 5 stars.

I had to be involved in a debate for school about the Tuskegee Incident. This video seems to follow history fairly accurately, unlike some of Hollywood's other 'based on real life' stories.

Miss Evers Boys 4 out of 5 stars.

I enjoyed it tremendously. (You'll have to watch out that it doesn't depress you). However, I found it to be noteworthy as it was historical and shed a bit of light on a situation that maybe some did not know ever existed. I would have liked it if the story would have dealt more with the government's ivolvement with the Tuskegee Project in preventing medicine to be given to the black men that were unknowingly used for this experiment. This story focused more on Miss Ever's commitment to the men, instead of the government's decision that these human beings were expendable. Excellent acting by Alfred Woodard & Laurence Fisburne.

A good, but incomplete portrait 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Let me begin by saying that the acting is first class, and the film does a good job of capturing the basic spirit of Harry S. Truman. However, the filmaker makes a conscious decision not to examine any of the man's lesser qualities or any of his poor political decisisions. I wouldn't say it's propaganda or revisionist, but we are left with the film maker's view of Truman through rose colored glasses. (editorially, I add that a similar positively spinned view of our current pres would never fly past the public.) The film is extremely enjoyable, and Sinise is wonderful. The story moves quicky, and even people who don't care for politics or biopics may still like it. I've watched it a few times and it ages well.It covers some of the hardest times in our history, up to and including Truman's agonizing decision to use nukes, and his choice to fire Doug MacArthur. I recommend this film for entertainment, and if you're interested afterwards, read McCullough's biography for the complete picture. Three and a half stars. Thanks for reading my review.

Not just bad, but a lie!!! 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Let me preface my comments by saying that I am a cavalry historian and have published a book on the U.S. Cavalry (check Amazon if you don't believe me). This movie is absolutely and completely wrong!

1) Cavalry horses were never disposed of by machine-gunning them - either they were humanely put down or sold.

2) No one ever stole cavalry horses to prevent them from being shot and then took them to Canada.

3) The U.S. Cavalry Association, an organization composed of cavalry veterans, attempted to sue the filmmakers for slander over this film. They couldn't though, because their organization had not itself been slandered.

4) There are numerous other smaller historical inaccuracies that I don't have the energy to mention, but other reviewers already have.

Don't waste your time!!!

Excellent true crime drama 5 out of 5 stars.

I rented Citizen X one evening when my local video shop hadn't anything else to offer. I was not expecting it to be very good, despite the casting of such heavyweight actors as Stephen Rea and Donald Sutherland. Sutherland is brilliant but erratic, while Rea is too often simply boring.

I was greatly surprised to find it brilliant. Rea's hangdog face and weary demeanour are perfect for the role of the hard-pressed forensic scientist Burakov (not a detective as sometimes stated, although he functioned like one on this case). Sutherland's feline turn as Rea's superior is one of the more subtle and fascinating pieces of acting he's done in the last few years - as Rea's character gets more and more stoical and unflappable, Sutherland's actually becomes less cynical and more hopeful as the film goes on. Max Von Sydow is wonderful as the psychiatrist whose crucial profile of the unknown killer becomes pivotal in the investigation. Some praise Joss Ackland as the bombastic and blinkered Party commissar who consistently refuses to accept that there is a serial killer at work, but I thought it was pretty much the same performance Ackland always does whenever he's playing a pompous and low-grade-evil functionary.

The real acting honours, in my opinion, go to Jeffrey DeMunn for his remarkable incarnation of Andrei Chikatilo. Blinking, stooped, bespectacled, mumbling in his rumpled raincoat, he's a harmless and dowdy shadow of a man who as soon as he's rendered his prey helpless becomes a slavering, wild-eyed, terrifying beast - and yet you can't help feeling weirdly sorry for him. Even when Chikatilo is on trial, it's almost as though he doesn't really understand why what he did was so wrong, and why people seem to hate him so much. The final line of the movie - 'Please don't turn around' - is one of the most chilling moments I've ever seen in cinema.

This film puts most American-set serial killer movies to shame. Understated, low on cheap suspense (no heavy breathing and stalking and handheld camera) and yet intensely dramatic, it's totally compelling. It incidentally demonstrates that the collapse of the Soviet Union was not, as Vladimir Putin has called it, 'the largest geopolitical catastrophe of the century'. It had to happen, if only because once you declare that your country is a place where serial killers can't possibly exist, you create the conditions for a Chikatilo to act out his obsessions without anyone having the will or the resources to stop him.

Editorial Review:

Armand Asante IS John Gotti. He has his look, voice and mannerisms down pat. This is one of the best written, best acted films I've ever seen on the Mafia. The photography is outstanding. It tells the story of John Gotti, as much as we know about it, from beginning to end. The movie was made while Gotti was still alive and before Sammy 'The Bull' got into trouble again and ended up back in prison. You will see every actor on The Sopranos in this film. It is totally real, totally believable. Action, drama, a lot of emotion. I stayed glued to the film the entire time. It is a real keeper.
