Third Times a Charm 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman has done it again. The third season is just as charming as the first two seasons. Michaela and Sully finally start their lives as a couple, go through some tough times in the process, and finally get married in the season finale. This DVD has excellent picture quality and an interactive Menu with summaries of each episode and the option of scene selection. It's a great installation for any Dr. Quinn fans who want to own the complete collection.

Editorial Review:

In an age when women are expected to be seen but not heard, Dr. Michaela "Mike" Quinn is a renegade, an independent spirit who forsakes her home in genteel Boston for the rough-and-tumble life of the frontier. But the prejudice she encountered back east pales in comparison to the challenges awaiting in Colorado Springs...

DR. QUINN, MEDICINE WOMAN breathed new life into a tired genre and brought families together around the TV for six seasons with its refreshing take on the Western, blending a distinctly modern sensibility with painstaking historical authenticity and tales of courage, conviction, and romance. This collection features all 25 episodes from the third season of the five-time Emmy Award winner starring Jane Seymour and Joe Lando, available on DVD for the first time.

Stop complaining! 20 episodes for $25 is a good deal! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I purchased this at Wal-Mart for $24.99 and was very happy with the quality and the amount of episodes. There were 39 episodes that year (this one has 20. If you love the old classic TV western, you'll love this. I'm not joining the bandwagon of griper misers who expect all 39 episodes for $10 or $15. Get real! Back in the old days people would pay $25 for one episode on 8 mm film. Now people are just mean spirited and expect everything for nothing. Yes, go buy a bootleg, but your quality will suffer. If you want a Cadillac, you're going to have to pay. If you think it's too much money, just don't buy it! I think it's a great deal. Why do so many call it a ripoff? Hey, maybe you can paint my house for $200. No? Oh I see..you've got to make a living at what you do too.

Still the Best 5 out of 5 stars.

I finished the first season, so naturally I had to continue. I watched Gunsmoke for its entire 20 season run and now it is even better with these high quality videos. It would have been nice to have the whole second season in one set, but that does not detract from the individual episodes. The commercials brought back old memories when we were not so worried about being PC all the time. I watched 7 episodes in a row and am up for 7 more any time. I hope CBS comes through with the rest of the series. One of my favorite TV shows of all time so I am in hog heaven. These were shown on Saturday night right after "Have Gun Will Travel" when it came on then moved to Monday night for the final years. Great old memories. Time has not diminished these old shows one bit in my estimation.

Editorial Review:

Marshall Matt Dillon is responsible for keeping the law and respectability in Dodge City in this western action-drama. Gunsmoke captured the courage, character and spirit of the Western Frontier.

Have Paladin Will Watch 5 out of 5 stars.

I picked this up after hearing a paper at a conference on Westerns on TV back in March. I got it to add to my growing research on the characteristics of the hero in American culture. But I really enjoyed watching all the episodes. What a wonderful series! And some of the episodes were written by one of the greats of TV, Gene Roddenberry.
I wasn't old enough to watch Have Gun Will Travel when it was first on, but I remember watching episodes in reruns in the late 60s or early 70s; however, I didn't remember how good it was. I highly recommend it.

The recording needs a lot of improvement. There were some episodes that were not viewable. I suggest that the master be remastered and try again. I still like the item and can't wait to get the last 3 seasons of the series.

Have Gun-Will Travel : Paladin is back 5 out of 5 stars.

Have Gun-Will Travel, Paladin fans will not be disappointed. The first season has 39 episodes of great viewing quality and sound. The special features shouldn't be missed with cast biographies. Lots of guest stars that became stars in their own right. This was an "adult, thinking-man's" western. Paladin, a professional, educated, former military officer who is now a private detective, bodyguard, bounty hunter, courier, knight righting wrongs in the old west. You won't be able to quit watching each adventure so plan on a whole week-end of watching. One of the best western tv series of all time.

Poor Quality Picture/Sound Transfers 1 out of 5 stars.
11 of 12 people found this review helpful.

First of all I love Have Gun Will Travel!

This disk set is nice but there are a number of video and audio problems.

1. By judging the video quality from how the telecine transfer process was done (film to digital tape transfer), the episodes did not come from the original picture negatives. This makes for a poor quality picture.

2. There are several video tape problems that should have been caught in quality control and were not. They should have been retransferred again instead of leaving these tape problems in. This is very disturbing and shows that the people in charge and the techs who did the jobs really did not take pride in this project.

3. The audio should have been transferred from the original magnetic film masters instead of the optical sound tracks that are on the positive picture prints. By using these it leaves the sound very noisy and crackly. These should have not been used either for this project. If they had to use these optical audio tracks, they should have gone through the digital audio sweetening process to clean them up properly. This should have been done also to the magnetic film masters if they had been used.

4. There should have been some picture editing to clean up the bad edits in the black commercial holes and finding a consistent end credit for the CBS logo that was clean and could have been used for all episodes.

In the final analysis, I am still glad to have the first three seasons but, overall, I am disappointed in the quality. I still want the final three seasons to complete the entire series. I can only hope that CBS/Paramount will do a much better job on these.

The best 5 out of 5 stars.

Out of all of the great, classic western tv series, and I've seen many, this one is my favorite. I guess the main reason is because of Clint's congenial manner. He's a regular, humble, funny guy who isn't afraid to belt you right in the nose if you deserve it. I like that. The series is excellent overall.

Season One of Cheyenne is great! Brings back memories of the great westerns we used to watch as kids. This has hours of entertainment that the whole family can enjoy! I can't wait for Season Two to come out!

ONE OF THE GREAT PILLARS OF WESTERN TV SHOWS 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Cheyenne is a western television series of 108 black-and-white episodes broadcast on ABC from 1955 to 1962. The show was the first hour-long western, the first series to be made by a major Hollywood film studio which did not derive from its established film properties,[4] and the first of a long chain of Warner Brothers original series produced by William T. Orr.

The series strength was its charismatic star and TV western icon, Clint Walker, who dominated the screen with his powerful physique. Off the set, Walker battled the studio over his contract, making Cheyenne one of the more tempestuous productions in the history of television.

The series began as a part of Warner Brothers Presents, a program that alternated three different series in rotation. In its first year, Cheyenne traded broadcast weeks with Casablanca and King's Row. Thereafter, Cheyenne was overhauled by outgoing producer Roy Huggins and left the umbrella of WBP. The show starred Clint Walker as Cheyenne Bodie, a physically huge cowboy wandering the Old West. The show ran from 1955 to 1963, except for a hiatus when Walker went on strike for higher pay (1958-1959). The interim saw the introduction of a virtual Bodie-clone called Bronco Layne, played by Ty Hardin. Hardin was featured as the quasi main character during Bodie's absence. When Warners renegotiated Walker's contract and the actor returned to the show in 1959, Bronco was spunoff as a show in its own right and became independently successful.

The two series alternated in the same time slot from 1958 to 1962, with Bronco as the junior partner (only a snippet of his theme song was heard in the opening credits, as a kind of aural footnote to Cheyenne's). Occasionally both Cheyenne and Bronco appeared together in the same episode, both deadly serious as they worked together.

At the conclusion of the sixth season, a special episode was aired. Called "A Man Named Ragan", it was a pilot for a program called The Dakotas that would replace Cheyenne in the middle of the next season. However, because Cheyenne Bodie never appeared in "Ragan", the two programs are only tenuously linked.[2]

Walker reprised the Cheyenne Bodie character in 1991 for the TV-movie The Gambler Returns: Luck of the Draw and also played Cheyenne in an episode of Kung Fu: The Legend Continues in 1995.

For the 1957-58 season, ABC offered to purchase a full season of thirty-nine episodes of Cheyenne. Warner Brothers declined, however, since each hour-long episode took six working days for principal photography alone. The studio couldn't supply a new episode each week. Because Walker appeared in virtually every scene, it was also impossible to shoot more than one episode at a time.[5]

Cheyenne Bodie, a former frontier scout, is the heroic loner who drifts without any particular motivation or purpose through the old West after the Civil War taking temporary jobs on ranches, wagon trains, or cattle drives. Sometimes he works for the federal government or finds himself deputized by local lawmen. He often meddles in the affairs of others, settling conflicts with his fists and guns rather than with his wits, mediation, conciliation, or persuasion. Producers changed Bodie's circumstances at will in order to insert him into any dramatic conflict. Several Cheyenne episodes were remakes of earlier Warner Brothers movies like To Have and Have Not (1944) and Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) with Cheyenne Bodie simply inserted into the original plot.

L. Q. Jones (Smitty) and Clint Walker (Cheyenne)Clint Walker as main character Cheyenne Bodie is the only series regular. L. Q. Jones appears as Cheyenne's sidekick Smitty in three first-season episodes. Thereafter, no recurring characters make appearances as Cheynne's circumstances change with every episode and he relocates as his drifter tastes and lifestyle dictate. Diane Brewster first appears as Samantha Crawford, the swindler with a fake southern accent, in an episode called "Dark Rider" before the character migrates to Maverick to become the Maverick brothers' most celebrated nemesis. Among guest stars were the child actor Roger Mobley, later on NBC's Fury and a star of Walt Disney studios.

ABC televised the show from 1955 to 1962: September 1955-September 1959 Tuesday 7:30-8:30 P.M.; September 1959-December 1962, Monday 7:30-8:30 P.M.; April 1963-September 1963, Friday 7:30-8:30 P.M..

Dell Comics produced a comic book based on the series. After 3 issues in their Four Color Comics series, it got its own title for issues #4-25 from (1957-1962). All issues had photo covers. Milton Bradley published a Cheyenne board game for children based on the series. Golden Books published an illustrated storybook for very young children while Whitman Publishing printed a novel called The Lost Gold of Lion Park for older children.

Cheyenne was a principal reason for ABC's ratings ascent during the mid-1950s. ABC had fewer national affiliates than CBS and NBC, but in markets with affiliates of all three networks, Cheyenne immediately entered the top ten; by 1957, it had become the number one program in those markets. Cheyenne finished the 1957-58 season as the second highest-rated series on ABC.

Cheyenne was a co-winner of the 1957 Golden Globe Award for Television Achievement.

Editorial Review:

Cheyenne follows the adventures of Cheyenne Bodie. Cheyenne was a big man, a former army scout who went west after the American Civil War and drifted from job to job, here a cowboy, there a lawman, and always a larger-than-life hero.

The Night of the Living Color 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

One of the all-time TV greats, "The Wild Wild West" was a truly unique series that incorporated many genres within its action-adventure format. The vivid transition to color gave the CBS show a tremendous boost in the 1966-67 season. Stunningly remastered, the DVD set includes classic Robert Conrad-Ross Martin episodes such as "The Night of the Returning Dead," "The Night of the Big Blast," "The Night of the Man-Eating House" and "The Night of the Lord of Limbo." An affectionate nod to 007 is evident in "The Night of the Deadly Blossom" - highlighted by a "Dr. No"-inspired climax. The guest-star roster rivaled ABC's "Batman," with memorable appearances by Boris Karloff, Sammy Davis Jr., Ricardo Montalban, Ida Lupino and Emmy winner Agnes Moorehead. Happily, Michael Dunn returns in four of the best Dr. Loveless encounters - reaching its imaginative apex in "The Night of the Surreal McCoy." Another recurring villain is Victor Buono's magical Count Manzeppi, who regrettably vanished after the second season. Devoted viewers can only fathom the increasingly bizarre trails James West and Artemus Gordon might have taken if creator Michael Garrison had not died so early during the show's four-year run.

Editorial Review:

James West and Artemus Gordon are two agents of President Grant who take their splendidly appointed private train through the west to fight evil. Half science fiction and half western, the Artemus designs a series of interesting gadgets for James that would make Inspector Gadget proud. A light hearted adventure series.

Oh, so much fun!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I watched this show when it originally came on and was a tad bit afraid to try watching it again. You know the old saying about you can't go home again. I was very happy to find that that was not the case here. It was wonderful to watch it all again. It has stood up to time very well and I found it entertaining.
The lack of bad language and blood was a breath of fresh air. I understand that the bad guy died when he was shot without having to see his insides all over the road. I understand that someone in these situations wouldn't just say, "Oh, drat", but I do so get tired of the expletives all over tv now.
My youngest child and myself have had tons of fun watching this.
The only problem is now waiting for seasons 2 and 3 to come out. Please hurry with them!!!!!

Saddle up for fun and adventure with "The Young Riders"! Set in the early days of the Pony Express, the series tells the fictionalized story of a group of young riders for the express in Sweetwater, Kansas, who just happen to include a couple of dudes who would one day go down in real-life history as two of the west’s most notorious names: "Buffalo Bill" Cody (Stephen Baldwin) and "Wild Bill" Hickock (Josh Brolin). In charge of the bunch is ex-Texas ranger and all-around eccentric teaspoon hunter (Anthony Zerbe). See how they all put the wild in the wild, wild west in this complete first season of "The Young Riders."

3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

The only negative is these 1/2 season volumes. I hope this never spills over into shows like Lost. As for positives I only need to mention Gil, Rowdy and Wishbone. They never cease to amaze me how much trouble they seem to get into and out of.

Keep them coming.

Good choice made by CBS/Paramount 5 out of 5 stars.

If you like this series, you'll love this. it's great to be able to watch the episodes with no commercials. The video quality is excellent and the packaging is also great. I have all the previous seasons and can hardly wait until CBS/Paramount releases Volume Two of the third season, due soon I believe. The package contains 4 discs of 15 episodes, very worthwhile in my view, for the price. Clint Eastwood is interesting to watch in this series, given his now star status. It is unfortunate that Eric Fleming was drowned in a water filming accident. I would have liked to seen more of him.
