Amazon is great to work with! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Queer as Folk - The Complete Series - is worth buying. The characters are so different from one another and one gets caught up in wondering what they will experience next. QAF presents the characters and storyline so well that you feel as if you know each one and your feelings/concerns are yanked right into their lives.

To clarify the packaging...yes, it is true that the DVD's do come loose easily. The comments made in this opinion section scared me and I questioned whether to order it. I took my chances anyway. My first set was poorly packaged. The discs were loose and scratched; the box was damaged. I contacted Amazon, which made my exhange seamless. I UPS'd (at their cost) my damaged set for a new box set that they packaged extremely well. It arrived in perfect condition. Amazon was an A+ company to work with.

I am so happy I took the chance. QAF is now mine to watch and keep to watch again. It was definitely worth it.

A co-worker of mine told me that back in the day, people used to run home to watch this show. Now, I know why!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

And after watching this show, to add to what my co-worker told me, I would've taken the WHOLE day off in anticipation to what was in store for me for what was going to happen next on this show!!!

'Cause that's how you start to feel once you get into this show. I mean, I was totally hooked after watching the first episode--if not, after watching the first minute!!!

I found myself liking all of the characters instantly and I liked how most of the characters are all connected to each other in one way or the other, like how Emmett and Michael are roommates. Ted is secretly in love with Michael. And how even though Michael and Brian are best friends, Michael, in his own way has a thing for Brian and Brian, in my opinion, has a thing for Michael--even though Brian's never going to admit that.

I also liked the overall tone of the show. And how it could somehow balance itself with having a scene go in one direction towards the outrageous (insert Brian here) and then how it could go in a very down to earth, very human and touching direction (also, insert Brian here.)

I guess I just have a thing for the Brian character and though how on the surface, he might be plotting and making everything be all about him--you just have to wait for the moments when it's just him and Michael and you get a glimpse that there's a whole lot more cooking with him.

To get an example of this, please see the episode wherein the fellas are heading out to New York to find Justin, who's run away. There's a moment, when the car gets a flat and Emmett and Ted have to fix it and Brian and Michael sneak away to share a joint.

As the scene unfolds, Brian tells Michael how much he means to him. And then before you know it, the two of them are kissing.

But that's not the part, that gets to you. It's how when Ted & Emmett start telling them that the car is ready, it's like Brian holds onto Michael maybe a little longer than he has to and while doing this, Brian at this point kisses Michael on the forehead. That one little scene tells you just how human Brian really is. (Incidentally, those were always my favorite scenes throughout the show--the little moments that were quiet and unassuming--you might have to really look for them, but man are they worth it!) :)

Anyway, I can't say enough about this show. I hope everyone out there who hasn't watched this show, will give it a try. I think you'll be very surprised in more ways than one.

I know I was!

(Also, a BIG shout out to the phenomenal Hal Sparks!!!) What he gave to the character Michael was truly amazing!!! I can't imagine the WHOLE world not falling in love with him. (I know I did!!!)

Its a real look at the gay world. Lots of real subject matter. Of course like most tv and movies, there is almost always a happy ending to whatever is going on at the time. If only life could be the same

Excellent!! 5 out of 5 stars.

I loved the second season!!! It's a bummer that I bought the first two season and then realized that the whole series would be out soon! But all in all for all of you QaF fans this is a must have!

A strong, gripping second season of what is becoming one of the best shows on television 5 out of 5 stars.

A pitch-perfect first season of a TV show is a rarity, and Queer as Folk - The Complete First Season was just that. Here comes season two, which is just as strong, but more watchable as we don't have to deal with necessary explanations and are able to get into the drama easily, since we care so much for these characters.
And what a drama it is! After the shocking season finale of the first season (the best season finale I've ever seen, and the one that made jump out of my seat and ring a friend so we could discuss it), we find our favorite TV "family" dealing with various issues of acceptance, stereotypes, life and death. Justin (Randy Harrison) and Brian (Gale Harold), around who the first season centered, are in the spotlight again, with Justin dealing with the shock and trauma of his past experiences, and Brian basically just trying to ignore the fact how much their relationship has developed and how much he cares for that kid. Jealousy grows, especially after Justin's questionable career choice. Emmett also gets a shocking job, and a bigger role, which leads to a new relationship, heartbreak and genuine drama. As for Michael (Hal Sparks), the "narrator" of the show and the character off whom all the problems bounce off finds a new boyfriend Ben (newcomer Robert Gant) and needs to deal with his own issues that develop in their relationship. Ted (Scott Lowell) keeps being somewhat of a marginal character, although the last couple of episodes provide him with a chance to not only deliver a strong performance, but also take part in some highly unexpected and entertaining plot developments. Michelle Clunie and Thea Gill who play the lesbian couple Melanie and Lindsay provide shoulders to cry on, but still deal with their own personal struggles, especially when Melanie's old friend decides to drop by.
The second season of "Queer as Folk" is everything you could have expected it to be. The show has evolved from being a controversial soap-opera, and it now has a life of its own. The direction is always strong and inventive, performances are stellar (especially that of Randy Harrison) and the soundtrack is pitch-perfect (Queer as Folk: The Second Season). What more could you ask for?

The Gang is back and this time more trendy, hotter, sexier and irresistable......

I wish the show was never ending but nevertheless having a Collector's Edition makes me feel special..

The show is groundbreaking and has certainly changed my life in some ways.

Sublime series 5 out of 5 stars.

Since QAF 's not out yet here in Belgium (got the pun??), I ordered it for the fifth time at Amazon and I must say, the combination of daring erotics, drama, suspense and classical soap elements makes this series a real must-have for all queers and their friends.
Every character is well taken care of, nice stories, real-life plots, excellent acting, great score and typical music.
Stopping after 5 seasons may be good, because we really don't want this cult series to degenerate into hollow, brainless entertainment just because there's a market for it.
Great job. Snifffff ..

A fitting end to a landmark series 5 out of 5 stars.

The fifth & final season of "Queer as Folk" did not disappoint. If anything, the producers, writers & cast met their subject matter dead on, with an unfaltering eye. Notable was the ongoing (and incredibly messy) custody battle between Lindsay, Melanie & biological father Michael; the creators smartly realized that situations such as this are not neatly resolved within an episode or two. Repercussions linger long after, and friendships/relationships are put to the test.
There were wonderful guest appearances from Rosie O'Donnell & Cyndi Lauper, the latter's participation signalling a bombing at Babylon which changed many lives forever. Most shocking was the 360-degree turnaround of Brian, who changed his ways, rejected promiscuity and made an announcement which made all jaws drop: He was marrying Justin & settling down for good. But as with the custody battle storyline, there are no easy answers as things take a complicated turn.
Emmett (who took a fun whirl aa a gay celebrity) helped closeted football player Drew deal with a scandal & embrace his homosexuality; unlucky-at-love Ted (who also boosted his confidence with plastic surgery) got a much-deserved ending by hinting at a possible romantic rekindling with old boyfriend Blake; Debbie flirted with retirement from the diner to spend more time with live-in boyfriend/policeman Karl; and Hunter faced HIV prejudice at school and accepted Michael & Ben's proposal to become their son for good. Concluding this all was an appropriate, heartwarming fadeout as Michael philosophizes that "we all follow the 'thumpa-thumpa' of life's dance beat. It's what drives us".
There is not a weak performance from anyone in this series, leading or supporting roles alike. It's sad to see this series exit the airwaves. However, it has made such a deep impression in portaying the gay lifestyle with such frankness that other future series will be hard pressed to meet its levels of quality.

Wonderful series, bad price! 2 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Two stars for this wonderful series, that deserves at least five of them. But Amazon sells the last two season for a price that accumulates to the same price the Complete Series edition costs. And there is not price adjustment in sight ... oh well, I'm not buying the complete series edition since I already own the first three in single season editions ... but I'm also not buying the seperate editions at this price. It's a great thing to have the choice.

WHEN is this going to be available at an affordable price?? 2 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Can anyone help out with the above? The fourth (and fifth!)seasons have been available for some time but still don't seem to have gone down in price, in spite of the fact that the first three seasons have! I think they're just TOO expensive. I loved Seasons 1-3 and I'm sure Seasons 4 and 5 are as good. Come on Amazon sellers, lower your costs, please!!

By the way the rating reflects my views on the cost, not the show itself...

Editorial Review:

When it appeared on British television in 1999, Queer as Folk caused quite a ruckus. There was the sex, as graphic as most anything you'd see in an R-rated film. There were the questionable morals--after all, one of the lead characters knowingly seduced a virginal 15-year-old boy. There was, of course, the rampant homosexuality, seeing as the series followed a group of gay men living in Manchester. But what really got people talking was the quality of the series: no leaden soap opera or exploitative sex romp, Queer as Folk is an engrossing, incredibly well-written series that ranks with some of the best ever produced for British TV. Following the adventures of Stuart (Aidan Gillen), a rake capable of seducing anyone anywhere, and Vince (Craig Kelly), his boy-next-door best friend, as well as the family and friends who surround them, Queer as Folk paints a complex, emotional, and funny portrait of its characters, who range from the regular to the outlandish. Less sensationalistic than it sounds, Queer as Folk shares more in common with gritty, working-class British films like My Beautiful Laundrette and Beautiful Thing than it does with glossy, sex-themed American TV like Sex and the City or even the Americanized version of Queer as Folk. Though definitely comedic in parts, Queer as Folk takes a clear-eyed yet fond view of its characters, from lothario Stuart, who can be charming one minute and self-obsessed the next, to hapless Vince, a mess of insecurities who can't believe it when a handsome Australian (Peter O'Brien) falls in love with him. Fans of the American Queer as Folk will recognize the British counterparts to the American characters, as well as familiar plot arcs, but this series' writing and directing make it a far more dramatic--and multifaceted--look at gay life. This first season set, known as "Series 1," clocks in at four hours. --Mark Englehart

I held my breath... 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I found myself holding my breath at times during this final part of the series. The story line is bold, quite disturbing at times, even alarming. It's not happily ever after. But I LOVED IT. I couldn't believe how exciting it was. It's not what you expect. If you want a gushy love story, go back and read Gordon Merrick. This, however, may shake you up a bit.

Editorial Review:

Stuart, Vince and Nathan are back for one last wild, outrageous adventure on Canal Street. But amongst the fabulous nights out, the one-night stands, the clubbing, all is not well. Someone's trying to blackmail Stuart Jones. Stuart is no one's victim. Now he's out for revenge. Big time! As Stuart fights back, Vince is facing a dilemma. Stuart's revenge is taking him on the wrong side of the law, and could even get someone killed. Just when it seems that they might finally get together, Vince thinks Stuart's gone too far. Will Nathan ever get over Stuart? Will Vince ever get his man? Can Stuart ever be stopped? In this witty, exciting drama, only one thing is for sure: No straight person is ever going to call a gay boy "queer" again...

Editorial Review:

Please note that this DVD Set is in PAL, Region 2 format and will not play on most North American DVD players. ------------------------------------ Synopsis: When the dramatic television series QUEER AS FOLK appeared on England's artsy and liberal Channel 4 in 1999, it was an unprecedented move, even for them. The series, which honestly tackles the intricate and complex story of three Manchester gay men and their trials and relationships, deals with sex explicitly and does not shy away from controversial subject matter. Fortunately, because of its beautiful handling, layered storylines, and nuanced, complicated characters, it was a huge success. QUEER AS FOLK, which tracks the characters of Stuart (the charismatic Aiden Gillen), a wildly promiscuous, often callous advertising executive, Vince (Craig Kelly,) the overly nice and unintentionally celibate grocery store manager, and Nathan (Charlie Hunnan,) the attractive and immature 15-year old who falls in love with Stuart and follows his example, is a highly important and incredibly involving step for television.
